Liverpool finished fifth last season and trophyless so a summer squad refresh was always likely to follow. And so it did with Milner, Keita, Chamberlain, Henderson, Fabinho and Firmino all departing. They completely freshened up the midfield with the signings of Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Endo and Gravenberch coming in.

Liverpool opened their Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw in Stamford Bridge before winning their next five league games which included victories 1-2 against Newcastle and 3-0 against Aston Villa. Over that run, they scored fourteen goals and only conceded four.

Since then, Liverpool had a brief stuttery period in the league (albeit in controversial circumstances) losing 2-1 to Tottenham and succumbing to a late Brighton goal before the International Break to draw 2-2 away from home. They ended their two-game winless run at the weekend with a 2-0 victory against Everton in the Merseyside Derby to steady the ship.

The Reds have proven far too good for their opponents in the Europa League so far this season with two wins coming from their two games. On Match Day 1 they came from behind with goals from Nunez, Diaz and Salah to win 1-3 against Lask. Last time out they had a comfortable 2-0 victory against Union Saint-Gilloise through goals from Gravenberch and Jota.

Another win here would put them in a commanding position in Group E.

Toulouse’s Form

Toulouse is an interesting case. On the surface, their 13th-place Ligue 1 finish last season does not inspire confidence, but it was their success in the Coupe de France, where they beat Nantes 1-5 in the final, that showed a glimpse of the potential this team has to offer.

The Head Coach of this team is Carles Martínez Novell who was appointed as assistant manager and head methodology under Philippe Montanier.

Martinez formed part of their Coupe de France management team and was appointed head coach back in June. Their squad remains largely the same since last season but notably, four of their five signings over the summer were midfielders.

Toulouse’s notable departure (from their three) was the top scorer from last season Rhys Healey who signed on a Free for Watford.

Toulouse looks likely to build on their 13th-place finish from last season with them currently tenth in Ligue 1. They’re hard to beat having only lost twice in their first nine league games.

However, while they’ve conceded ten goals in the league that’s from an XG of 14.76 which suggests they’ve benefited from poor finishing.
