The Form – Man City v Arsenal

Man City’s Form

Manchester City comes into this fixture following their comfortable 3-0 triumph over Sheffield United in the FA Cup Semi-Final on Saturday earning a place in the final versus cross-town foes Manchester United.

The previous Wednesday they had secured Champions League Semi-Final qualification with a 1-1 draw away to Bayern meaning they won 4-1 on aggregate and would play Real Madrid for a place in the Champions League Final.

Man City in the Premier League has been an imperious winning machine this season since their last defeat in the league 1-0 to Tottenham back in February they have eight wins and one draw in their nine league matches showing no let-up as they look to claw back Arsenal’s lead on the table.

Arsenal’s Form

Arsenal has been excellent in the Premier League this season as Mikel Arteta has taken his side from a 5th place finish last season to a shock Premier League Title Charge this season as they currently top the table with 75-points after their 32 matches played Man City trail them by 5-points with two fewer games played.

Despite this and the fact that Arsenal has led the Premier League in 29/32 Rounds of the Season and since Round 24 they still find themselves second-favourites for the title. With three draws in their last three games, it seems like the wheels have begun to fall off Arsenal’s unlikely title charge at a crucial juncture of the season.

However, a win Wednesday Night and they will be in the driving seat again to win their first title since 2004.

Man City v Arsenal Preview

Man City’s Attack

Man City have the best attack in the Premier League this season with 78 goals in 30 games which is an average of 2.6 goals per match. This attack is led by the freak of nature that is Erling Haaland, who has scored a staggering 32 goals and contributed 5 assists in his 28 league matches.

Aside from Haaland (even if Arsenal stop him) Man City have a dearth of attacking options at their disposal with playmaker Kevin De Bruyne scoring 5 goals and giving 17 assists in 30 games and Phil Foden has 9 goals and 4 assists.

Arsenal’s Defence

Arsenal’s defence has conceded 34 goals this season an average of 1.06 goals per match which is good enough for the third-best defence behind Newcastle who has only conceded 25 goals and Man City who has only conceded 28 goals.

However, in their last five league matches they have been poorer conceding 9 goals in their last 5 matches which is an average of 1.8 goals per match. Arsenal will need to return to their earlier season form to stop Haaland and co-running riot at The Etihad.

Arsenal’s Attack

Arsenal boost the second-best attack this season with 77 goals scoring an average of 2.4 goals per match across their 32 matches only one less than Man City albeit in two more matches than The Citizens.

Arsenal boasts arguably a more rounded attack than their title rivals with Martinelli having 15 goals and 5 assists, Saka’s 13 goals and 11 assists, and Ødegaard 12 goals and 8 assists all contributing to an excellent season for The Gunners.

Man City’s Defence

Man City’s defence has conceded 28 goals this season an average of 0.93 goals per match which is good enough for the second-best defence behind Newcastle who has only conceded 25 goals. This is very much because an attack is the best form of defence for Guardiola’s side and being dominant in possession means they give up very few chances.

In their last five league matches they have only conceded 3 goals which is an average of only 0.6 goals per match suggesting their defensive unit is only getting stronger as the season reaches its climax.

Man City v Arsenal Prediction

Prediction: Man City 3-1 Arsenal

Man City look unstoppable right now as they look to win their third Premier League in a row Haaland seems to have been the missing piece needed for them to dominate on all fronts. Despite that Arsenal has been very consistent also this season so while I’m expecting a Man City win do not rule out Arsenal getting a result at The Etihad

Best Bet: Man City Win & Over 3.5 Goals 11/4

While the Premier League title race enters the final stretch the Europa League is also entering its final stages and we previewed all the Europa League outright odds in a recent post.
