Newcastle’s Form
Newcastle began their run to this League Cup final with a second round win against Tranmere Rovers, a game in which they had to come from behind to secure the victory. The third round of this competition brought more challenges for the Magpies to overcome. In their match with Crystal Palace neither team could score so the outcome was decided by penalties which Newcastle would prevail in 3-2.
The Magpies have had a tougher route to the final than their opposition on Sunday having had to face off against three Premier League teams to earn their spot at Wembley in this decider. The most recent of those fixtures came in the semi-final against Southampton where they ended up winning 3-1 on aggregate.

Man United’s Attack
Man United have been on fire in their attacking play over the course of the last month. They have scored at least two goals in each of their last five matches in all competitions including a 3-0 win against Leicester City last time out.
The star man for United over this stretch has been Marcus Rashford who is in the form of his life right now. The England winger has had a career resurgence under Erik Ten Hag, in particular since he left with his national team for the World Cup in November.
Rashford will be a constant threat to pop up with a goal in this game and continue his incredible run of goal scoring form. The 25-year old now has 21 goals in all competitions this season including three for his country at the World Cup.
However, Rashford isn’t the only star in this United attack that Newcastle will have to keep a close eye on. Jadon Sancho has started to improve his form of late since returning to the team and has been getting involved in plenty of the goal scoring action. Bruno Fernandes and Antony will both likely start in the attack in this cup final.

Newcastle’s Defence
For as brilliant as Man United have been in attack in recent games they are up against a formidable Newcastle defence in this match. The Magpies have only conceded more than one goal once in their last five matches and that came in their most recent outing against Liverpool.
In the Premier League they have far and away the best defensive record with only 15 goals conceded this season which is the least by any team. The next best defence is Arsenal who have conceded eight more goals in the league with 23 against them.
The big news going into this game for Newcastle is that they will be without Nick Pope who received a red card when playing against Liverpool. As a result they will have to rely on Loris Karius between the sticks.
Newcastle’s Attack
Newcastle have really improved in their attacking play this season which has been a big part of their success. Miguel Almiron has been the man in form for the Magpies up front. Almiron now has 10 goals and three assists in 29 games played this season. If he can find the net again in this game it will go a long way towards bringing a league cup back to the Northeast.
Another important player for the Newcastle attack is striker Alexander Isak. The club record signing has been getting his name on the score sheet since joining from Real Sociedad in the summer.
Man United Defence
In defence Man United have been solid recently. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane make one of the best centre back duos in the league. There are also plenty of quality options in the full back spots with the likes of Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan-Bissaka who has had a recent return to form.
The Red Devils have only conceded five goals in their last five games in all competitions so Newcastle will need strong performances from Isak and Almiron up front to get the goals needed to win this game.
