Man United’s Negative Approach Needs To Go Out The Window

The teams that have beaten Manchester City this season are the ones who have went and pressed them.

United on the attack
Manchester United had nothing to lose being 2-0 down at half-time and they produced a very un-Jose Mourinho like performance to attack City in the second half.

United had the quality to open them up; we’ve just not seen it enough this season because of Mourinho’s conservative approach. That mind set is the one thing you’d be looking to change at Man United next season.

Vulnerable Blues
For City, things have unravelled at the worst possible time. Of course they’ll go on to win the Premier League but they might struggle against Tottenham this weekend too.

Liverpool have definitely shown how you can beat them; even earlier in the season when they got beat 5-0, Jurgen Klopp’s side pressed City and caused them problems in the first half of that game.

Yes City have quality throughout the side and they can hurt any side in Europe. But Liverpool, with their pace and power, proved that if you can get at City, get in behind them and put them under pressure, they are as vulnerable as anyone else.

Spicy Derby
Ander Herrera is under fire for allegedly spitting on the Manchester City crest and although players are in the zone for big games they do have a responsibility. There are cameras all over the place nowadays and he’ll probably end up being punished in some way.

There was a lot of spice to the game and a little bit of petulance. There were plenty of challenges going in too but that’s why we enjoy derbies. Contrast it to the Merseyside derby; there was nothing in it and the Manchester derby was a better watch for fans.

Rooney’s a winner
The cameras were on Wayne Rooney too when he was substituted at Goodison Park and he’ll come under scrutiny for the way he reacted but it just shows what a winner he is.

He’s not the same footballer he was years ago. He’s lost a bit of pace and power, but he’s still a quality footballer and that frustration on the bench proves that he still has a bit of needle and a bit of bite left in him. He is still desperate to win football matches.

Dismal Merseyside Derby
I was disappointed in Everton as a whole in the way they sat off Liverpool. They made it an easy enough game for the visitors and instead they should have scrapped and made a real game of it.

Overall this season I have a few disappointments in the Premier League. I would’ve liked a better title challenge.

Man United have been disappointing particularly with the money they’ve spent.

Surely their negative approach needs to go out the window as proved by their second half against Manchester City.

Tottenham showed inconsistencies again. Arsenal did what they have done for the past ten seasons. Chelsea have one incredible season followed by a poor one and they can’t seem to be consistent either.

On the plus side, Liverpool have improved and I expect them to challenge for the title next season.
