Messi Strong Favourite For Ballon d’Or Award In Paris

Lionel Messi is fancied to pick up the Ballon d’Or award on Monday night in Paris for a record seventh time.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward helped Argentina win the Copa America during the summer and helped Barcelona to Copa del Rey success before making the big move to the French side in August.

We have chalked the star player up at 4/9 to win the award again but punters clearly thought he was overpriced with those chances trimmed into 2/9 within minutes.

The closest rival to Messi in the betting is Robert Lewandowski, who was the favourite in 2020 before the awards were cancelled due to the pandemic. Lewandowski has scored 73 goals in just 60 games for Bayern Munich since the start of last season with his chances rated at 11/4.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a 50/1 shot to match Messi’s haul of six Ballon d’Ors but those odds have been eased from 12/1 in the betting over the last month.
