Mouth-Watering Racing Ahead At Shelbourne
It was one for the good guys last weekend in the 2nd round of the Derby! There was shocks galore on Friday evening with the likes of Droopys Verve, Borna Gin and Cash Is King all biting the dust.
Fastest winner of the night was Totos Park as he put in a polished performance strolling to victory in 29.34. But there were also exceptional times set by Clonbrien Prince as he clocked 29.39 and then the 29.42 effort from Jaytee Taylor in the last heat of the evening as he showed a beautiful turn of pace to the corner to lead and upset the odds on jolly Droopys Verve.
Graham Holland had a night to remember as he sent out no less than five winners from his Riverside Kennels, we make him an 11/10 chance to train the winner, this could look serious value after the next round!
Lenson Blinder getting turned over by his kennel companion Clonbrien Prince was the best result on Friday night for us, Blinder was the anchor leg for most doubles and trebles on the night.
Slippy Cian was well supported for heat 6, we initially priced him up at 11/8 early in the week as he was taking on Borna Gin. This match race never materialised after as Gin missed the kick totally and didn’t figure, it was all one way traffic for Cian. We were left with egg on our faces after that one as he returned 4/5.
Shrewd money on Thursday evening/Friday morning was all on Jaytee Taylor, after Droopys Verves first round run it was hard to see how this youngster could match him but after 25 yards Taylor dominated the race on the outside and Verve was always on the back foot.
Things got off to a flyer on Saturday evening for punters when Panther got up close to nail Ballymac Trinkle on the line in heat 9. Favourite backers had to wait a while for the next result but their patience paid off as Clonbrien Hero (1/2), Whoops Jack (4/6) and Magical Bale (6/4) all romped home consecutively.
Ballyanne Sim stopped the winning streak of the jollies in the penultimate heat of the night, Buckos Dream was sent off 6/4 favourite but his supporters knew their fate early as he missed the kick.
Normal service was resumed in the final heat as Stonepark Noel (7/4) proved to us that his run in round one was no flash in the pan. Noel flew out of the red box, led to the corner and closed the shop early. Droopys Davy was the big disappointment in the race, he never seemed to get going at all to the bend which put him out of the Derby.
Looking ahead this weekend’s action we have some mouth-watering clashes to look forward to.
Kennel mates Slippy Cian and Totos Park will battle it out in heat 1. I’m going to stay loyal to Crossfield Will in heat 2, this lad has yet to get loose in this Derby, he has a nice draw here and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him lead all.
Panther can capitalise on a great draw in heat 3, Lenson Blinder and Magical Bale will be the big two in this contest but as both are confirmed front runners they can break each other’s hearts and Panther will arrive on the scene late to pick up the pieces.
Heat 4 is a tough one to call, we make Whoops Jack favourite on the outside but with the amount of early pace on his left hand side he will have to bring his A game to the party. Stonepark Noel might just have the better of him in this contest.
Skywalker Logan has been crying out for the fence this past couple of weeks, with his draw in trap one in heat 5 he has a chance to show us what he’s made of. Doggy Macdogface and Ballymac Bolger will be around to make life extremely difficult for him however.
Clonbrien Prince and Jaytee Taylor go head to head in heat 6, on last week’s running Prince looks the pick on paper but Listening to connections of Taylor they feel there is more to come from this fella, it looks a dead match between them. Nice Charmer ran the race of his life last week only to be denied by Burgess Superior on the line, if he shows the same turn of foot to the corner he can take heat 7.
Vahsel Bay will be his main danger on the outside, she seems to becoming alive just at the right time for Barney Mooney. The final heat on Saturday night has all the makings of a cracker. If any of the six runners were in a different heat you fancy them to lead! The amount of early pace here is frightening, what leads here? Something has to give at the bend so I’m just going to side with Beaming Paradise on the inside. He will not leave an inch between himself and the rails so he should get a run at them.
All heats are priced up along with the ante-post book as well as a number of specials. These are available online or call into any of our shops nationwide #BetOnBoyle
