Newcastle United Discussed With Former Midfielder Dietmar Hamann

Dietmar Hamann, who previously played for Newcastle United before joining Liverpool, stopped by to chat with us this week about Newcastle’s fantastic season so far.

The Magpies are flying high right now in the Premier League where they sit in fourth spot. The former German international and current TV pundit had some interesting takes on what the Toon Army can expect from their team the rest of the season.

Check out Hamann’s thoughts on Newcastle down below.

Are Newcastle genuine contenders for a Champions League position this season?

Newcastle are genuine contenders for a top-four finish this season. They’re a very professional team and, in Miguel Almiron, they have a player who comes up with the goods.

People probably thought they’d spend more than they have this season but I really like the look of the team and at the moment I’d make them favourites to finish in the top four.

Is Eddie Howe on course to win manager of the season?

Expectations are high at Newcastle and if they finish in the top four then Eddie Howe won’t far away from the conversation and I wouldn’t be surprised if he does win manager of the season.

Do you think Callum Wilson should be going to the World Cup?

Callum Wilson gives England something different and I think it’s important for them to have a player of his physical presence. Teams are allowed to take a squad of 26. I think he should be in the mix and he has a good chance of going.

If Newcastle were to consider selling Bruno Guimarães, how much should they be asking for?

In today’s market, if Newcastle were to sell Bruno, they should do so for three figures – you’re probably looking at £100m plus.

Darwin Nunez signed for Liverpool for £85m and it wasn’t proven that he can score goals in the Premier League whereas Bruno is proving every week what a fantastic player he is against the best players in the world.
