Newcastle Utd In For Leicester Ace Amid Strong Premier League Betting

Newcastle United are being well backed for a successful Premier League campaign ahead of kick-off in the new season this weekend.

The Magpies amassed 39 points in the last 20 games of last season, a tally only bettered by title challengers Manchester City and Liverpool – and Eddie Howe’s men will hope to pick up where they left off when they open the new season at home against newly promoted Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Newcastle have reportedly bid £50m for Leicester City star James Maddison, having had a £40m bid rebuffed just days earlier. The Foxes are holding out for at least £60m, and so we could see the playmaker in black and white come the end of the month.

The credentials of Eddie Howe’s men will be put to the test early as the new fixture list has also thrown up early meetings with last season’s top two within the first five matches, however there is growing confidence amongst punters that Newcastle will be in the mix at the right end of the table this coming season.

A top six finish come the end of next May is now a 5/2 shot from 3/1 in the betting, while 7/1 is available on automatic qualification for the Champions League via a top four finish.

It’s a red hot 1/9 shot that Newcastle better last season’s points tally of 49 and while Callum Wilson is odds-on at 4/6 to finish the season as top goalscorer among the Magpies, both Allan Saint-Maximin and Bruno Guimaraes have been clipped into 6/1 from 13/2 to outscore their teammates this season.

Newcastle beat Nottingham Forest home and away the last time Saturday’s opponents were in the top-flight in 1998/99 and the hosts are hot favourites at 4/6 to take all three points from their opening assignment.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “Newcastle were one of the form teams in the second half of last season and it hasn’t gone unnoticed ahead of the new campaign.

They are being backed off the boards to eclipse last season’s points tally and at 5/2 from 3/1 this week, there is clearly optimism that a top six finish at least is well within reach.”
