Newlywed Punters Return To Collect €2,500 Grand National Winnings

On the day of the Grand National one of BoyleSports’ shops in County Kerry had some very unusual customers in to place a bet.

Images of a bride and groom entering the Park Road shop in Killarney surfaced online and BoyleSports launched a manhunt to find out the identity of the couple to offer them a whopping €2,500 cheque on the Grand National winner, Many Clouds.

After much help from our social media followers, BoyleSports tracked down the couple and revealed them to be Aishling Duggan and Jason McElligott, who married in Listowel and stopped off to place a bet on the way to their reception in Park Hotel Killarney in full wedding attire.

As a token of appreciation of their dedicated custom, BoyleSports wanted to offer Aishling and Jason a belated wedding present, giving the happy couple a €100 bet on Many Clouds, who won the Grand National, at 25/1.

Since the couple were away on their honeymoon when the search was happening they were unavailable to collect their winnings, but on Saturday 13th June they returned to the Park Road shop in Killarney to receive their cheque for €2,500.

We at BoyleSports are very pleased to have finally been able to present Jason and Aishling with their €2,500 belated wedding present. It has been a whirlwind of activity trying to track them down and we want to thank everyone who contacted us with information.

More importantly we want to thank Jason and Aishling, despite it being their special day, for sticking with tradition and betting with BoyleSports on the Grand National. We wish them all the best with their winnings and with their life as a married couple.

Aishling McElligott commented “When we got off the plane in Barbados, we switched our phones on with messages from Jason’s sister saying they were all ok but ring home ASAP when we get the message. We were shocked and thought they were messing with us. Texts kept coming, from the lady at the parish to the beautician, it was a fantastic surprise.”
