Next Late Late Show Host Odds – Who Will Replace Ryan Tubridy?

We have the next Late Late Show Host odds and betting for you after Ryan Tubridy announced he will be stepping down from the role.

It’s never-ending drama in the race to become the next Late Late Show host as Miriam O’Callaghan becomes the latest name (after Jennifer Zamparelli) to rule herself out of the running for the Late Late hot seat.

The mum of eight was the early favourite with BoyleSports, at one point odds of just 4/6 before drifting in the last few days to 9/2.

Next Late Late Show Host Odds

Claire Byrne 8/11

Laois native Claire Byrne is the top contender to replace Tubridy and now favourite in the betting market. Claire has a wide array of broadcasting experience including presenting Today with Claire Byrne on RTÉ Radio 1, Monday to Friday from 10 am.

Following Miriam O’Callaghan’s dramatic exit from the running to be next Late Late Show host, the odds on current affairs presenter Claire Byrne taking over from Ryan have been chopped to 10/11 with Primetime presenter Sarah McInerney also being nibbled into 3/1 from 9/2.

Last May she stepped away from her role as presenter of Claire Byrne Live a role which she had held since January 2015. Her reason for doing so was cited as wanting to spend more time with her family.

Could a role as Late Late Presenter be too much for Claire to turn down? Claire Byrne is currently 7/4 to take over from Tubridy as the next Late Late Show host.

Miriam O’Callaghan

*Miriam O’Callaghan has ruled herself out of the running to become the next Late Late Show host.

She was the early favourite to take over from Ryan Tubridy and has been with RTÉ since starting with the company in 1993 she currently presents Prime Time a show she has presented since 1996 on television along with Sunday with Miriam on RTÉ Radio 1.

Miriam was the favourite for the same job when Pat Kenny departed in 2009 but she lost out to Ryan Tubridy calling it her “biggest and most public knockback”.

Perhaps the biggest indication of her chances is when she got the opportunity to host the show two years ago when Tubridy missed two weeks because of Covid-19, becoming the first woman to host the show in 58 years. Miriam was the early favourite to land the slot permanently.

Tommy Tiernan 10/1

Tommy Tiernan is a comedian, actor and writer first and foremost so he certainly doesn’t come from a traditional journalistic background. However, he has in recent years started presenting his show “The Tommy Tiernan Show” which has been consistently one of RTÉ’s biggest rating grabbers since the show’s inception in 2017-present.

Tiernan is rated as the man with the best chance of becoming the next Late Late Show host but there are three women rated as having a better chance than him to take over the role.

Tommy would certainly bring a different feel and atmosphere to the show which could be a much-needed reset for a show running since 1962. Tommy Tiernan is currently 10/1 to replace Tubridy.

Brendan O’Connor 16/1

One of the main contenders outside “The Pale” is Cork presenter Brendan O’Connor who currently presents The Brendan O’Connor Show on RTÉ Radio 1 every Saturday and Sunday, and also writes for The Sunday Independent.

His biggest television experience was probably when he presented The Saturday Night Show on RTÉ One from 2010-2015. If Brendan O’Connor was to get the role he would become the first permanent presenter of the show from Cork and the only person born outside of Dublin aside from Frank Hall born in Down, who presented the show in 1964, to get the job!

Brendan O’Connor is currently 16/1 to replace Tubridy.

Jennifer Zamparelli

*Jennifer Zamparelli has ruled herself out of becoming the next Late Late Show host.

An outsider in the market but a candidate not without her merit or chance nonetheless. Jennifer first appeared on our screens as a 27-year-old marketing consultant whilst appearing on the fourth series of The Apprentice back in 2008.

Since then she has been largely involved in the comedy and entertainment side of the media. She is currently a popular host on RTÉ’s Dancing with the Stars and presents a morning show on RTÉ 2FM from 9 am – 12 pm every weekday.

Jennifer Zamparrlli was among the favourites at 8/1 to get the Late Late Show hot seat before she ruled herself out of the running.

Next Late Late Show Host Likely To Be A Woman

Of the other female contenders, Ask Me Anything presenter and Meath woman Angela Scanlon is third favourite in the running at 9/2 (from an opening 33/1).

So one-way has the traffic been for the next presenter to be female, that BoyleSports is quoting just 1/16 on RTE bucking the trend and choosing a woman (or women!) and a considerably larger 8/1 that Tubs will be replaced by another man.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said:

“The betting has been pretty erratic so far but with reports suggesting the new host (or hosts) won’t be announced until later in the summer, we’ll be on the edge of our seats waiting on white smoke to appear from Montrose.”
