Next Liverpool Manager Odds – Klopp set to leave

We have the Next Liverpool Managers odds and betting favourites for you following the shock announcement he is set to leave the club.

The football world has been sent into a sudden storm early this morning with the announcement that Jurgen Klopp will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

In a video posted on the Liverpool website, the German admitted “he was running out of energy” and that he told the owners last November of his intention to leave the club in the Summer of 2024 despite having a contract until 2026.

Klopp has managed the club since 2016 winning the club their first-ever Premier League title during the 19/20 season, Klopp would also guide them to success in the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and Club World Cup throughout the seasons.

Liverpool reached the Carabao Cup final on Wednesday evening meaning they remain fighting on all four fronts for trophies this season with them top of the table in the Premier League also.  However, romanticism only lasts so long in football and next season there will be a new man in the Liverpool dugout! So who are the favourites to land one of the biggest jobs in football?

Favourites

Xabi Alonso – 4/7

Following the shock announcement that Klopp is set to leave Liverpool come the end of the season, the man installed as the heavy early favourite is Xabi Alonso at odds of 4/7 which implies he has a 63.6% chance of being the next Liverpool manager.

The Liverpool cult hero (42) signed for the club in the 2004-2005 season completing five seasons at the club, playing over 200 times, winning 4 trophies including a Champions League before signing for Real Madrid.

His management career has been interesting of late, he started in the Real Madrid youth setup from 2018-2019 before taking the helm of Real Sociedad B from 2019-2022. However, he received his first proper breakthrough as a manager being appointed at Bayer Leverkusen in October  2022 guiding them to 6th in the league and a Europa League Semi-Final.

The Alonso revolution has gone from strength to strength this season with the side currently top of the table 4 points clear of Bayern Munich with 18 games played in the league. It’s not just the results Alonso is getting, his side also plays attacking, possession-based football making him a good match for the Liverpool role.

He looks to be the outstanding candidate and there would be parallels with Klopp if he could break the Bayern dominance before making the mover in the summer.

Certainly, a man to keep onside in the betting market.

Roberto De Zerbi – 11/2

With Klopp set to leave another name who we can expect to be widely touted for the Liverpool job is Roberto De Zerbi (44) at 11/2 which implies he has a 15.4% chance of being the next Liverpool manager.

Since joining Brighton following the departure of Graham Potter to Chelsea he has taken the club to another level qualifying them for Europe with a 6th place finish in the league and an FA Cup Semi-Finals place. During the summer of 2023, Brighton were gutted losing Alexis Mac Allister, Sanchez and Caicedo to clubs across the league and plenty were expecting the Brighton train to slow down this season.

Nevertheless, Brighton have remarkably picked up where they let off this season and De Zerbi deserves immense credit for how he has successfully managed his squad despite the added pressure of Europe and losing key players. At the time of writing, they are seventh in the league and into the Round of 16 stage in the Europa League.

A manager who would certainly impose the right style of play at Anfield and consolidate/build on the Klopp ideology, he is a very likely candidate for the role.

Pep Lijnders 10/1

Following the shock announcement that Klopp is set to leave Liverpool come the end of the season, the third favourite to replace Klopp is assistant Pep Lijgners at odds of 12/1 which implies he has a 9.1% chance of being the next Liverpool manager.

This is despite the announcement that Pep Lijnders is also expected to leave the club at the end of the season alongside Klopp. Could it be a temporary departure before he rejoins the club permanently?

Pep is a very well thought of coach and is highly regarded in the club for his work under Klopp which has had him touted as a future replacement for Klopp. Despite that the 41-year-old has little Head Coach experience and so is an unlikely candidate.

Julian Nagelsmann  12/1

The joint fourth favourite to replace Klopp is Nagelsmann at 12/1 these odds imply he has a 7.7% chance of becoming the next Liverpool manager.

Nagelsmann who remarkably is still only (36) has already been in senior management for seven seasons having started at Hoffenheim back in 2016 at just 28 years of age. He quickly gained admirers for not only his results on the pitch bringing them from a relegation dog-fight to Champions League football but also his attractive pressing style of football.

He had two seasons at RB Leipzig where he similarly impressed before being announced as the Bayern Munich manager on the 27th of April 2021 for a world-record fee for a manager €25 million

However, despite bringing them a Bundesliga and DFL Supercup in his first season, he was axed and replaced by Thomas Tuchel last season.

Nagelsmann recently took the German National Team job, but could club management tempt him back in? An interesting dimension to this is Klopp’s link with the German job in the future!

Straight swap anyone?

Marco Rose – 12/1

The joint fourth favourite to replace Klopp is Marco Rose at 12/1 these odds imply he has a 7.7% chance of becoming the next Liverpool manager.

Rose (47) is another who is seen as a progressive young coach and despite being removed from his role form Dortmund following the completion of the 2021-22 season, he has done a decent job with RB Leipzig at the moment with the side fourth in the league.

The Liverpool job seems to me like too much of a jump for him for now, but in time he could be another for a big job.

Steven Gerrard – 16/1

The fifth favourite to replace Klopp is Liverpool Legend Steven Gerrard  (43) at 16/1 these odds imply he has a 5.9% chance of becoming the next Liverpool manager.

The man who was once the favourite to be Liverpool manager has not had the best time of it in recent times but on the 3rd of July Gerrard became the manager of Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq and they’re currently eighth in the league with 2 points from their last 5 games.

Gerrard was previously dismissed by Aston Villa on the 20th of October 2022 following a record of just 2 wins in their opening 12 games. He had been appointed on the 11th of November 2021 and the side finished the season in 14th place, three places lower than the previous campaign.

Despite his struggles with Villa before that Gerrard had shown himself to be at least a competent manager at Rangers from 2018-2021. His time with the club culminated in the 2020-21 season when Rangers had a record-breaking season winning back-to-back derby wins over rivals Celtic, and topping their Europa League group.

They would win the Scottish Premiership title on the 7th of March 2021 in the season not losing a single league match, receiving 102 points and conceding only 13 goals across 38 matches. Given the name value of Gerrard, he will be given another managerial opportunity in the future

Despite his legendary status with Liverpool, he would be an underwhelming choice to replace Klopp, something I’d even suggest rival fans would welcome!
