Next US President Betting Favourites

Donald Trump – Next US President Favourite

Donald Trump is the 6/4 favourite to become the next US President after the 2024 US Presidential Election. Those odds imply that Trump has a 38.1% chance of winning the 2024 US Presidential Election and makes him one of two co-favourites.

Trump had been a 13/8 co-favourite alongside incumbent US President Joe Biden but has since been cut into sole favouritism at his his current odds of 6/4.

Previous Political Experience

Donald Trump was the 45th President of the United States of America after winning the 2016 US Presidential Election. In that year he pulled off a massive shock to beat heavy favourite Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House. Clinton looked like a slam dunk to become the first ever Female US President but Trump’s rhetoric apparently resonated with the electorate as he recorded a history election victory, securing 304 electoral votes to Clinton’s 227.

Trump did however lose the popular vote which made him the 5th US President in history to lose the popular vote but still win the election. That was the first time the US Presidential Election winner lost the popular vote since 2000 when George W. Bush beat Al Gore.

Trump would seek a second term as US President in 2020. After a fiercely contested campaign, he ultimately lost out narrowly to Democratic candidate Joe Biden (more on Biden later). In a near identical result to the 2016 election, with Trump on the losing side this time, Biden secured 306 votes to Trump’s 232. The Democrat also won the popular vote by a little over 7 million votes.

The businessman-turned-politician did not take the election loss graciously. Trump made claims of voter fraud and of a rigged election when it became obvious that Biden was going to win the election.

2024 US Presidential Election Chances

There are few things you can say about Donald Trump that wouldn’t see you receive fierce backlash from either side of the political spectrum. One thing that almost everybody can agree on is that Trump is a polarising figure, not just in US politics, but in global politics.

According to the latest opinion polls (Nov. 1st) on 538, Donald Trump is predicted to narrowly defeat Joe Biden in the race for the White House. Of course, as we know a week is a long time in politics, never mind a year, so there are sure to be plenty of swings in support for both candidates before next November’s election date.

Joe Biden

The second favourite to win the 2024 US Presidential Election is Joe Biden at odds of 15/8. Those odds imply that Joe Biden has a 34.8% chance of being re-elected as US President for a second term.

Biden had previously been 13/8 co-favourite alongside Donald Trump but has since drifted out to his current odds of 15/8.

Previous Political Experience

Joe Biden is the current sitting United States President. Biden beat out Donald Trump in the 2020 election race, one of the most fiercely contested in the history of the country, to become the 46th US President.

Biden’s political career spans over 50 years. In that time he served on a county council in his home state of Delaware, served as Senator for Delaware, was right hand man to Barack Obama as his Vice President from 2009 to 2017 and most recently as US President himself.

Biden’s experience is without question. There are question marks however about his health. At 80 years of age, the incumbent US President is the oldest-ever President of the United States and he breaks his own record with each passing day in office. If he were to win the next US Presidential Election, he would be 86 at the end of his second term in office.

The soon-to-be 81-year-old has been seen regularly forgetting his lines or struggling to finish his thoughts without trailing off. This has left many concerned as to his suitability to serve a second four-year term in the White House.

2024 US Presidential Election Chances

Joe Biden is the co-favourite to win the 2024 US Presidential Election but given his age and question marks surrounding his health, I wouldn’t be in a rush to bet on him at odds of 13/8.

A US Presidential Election campaign is a long drawn-out process which would drain even the fittest of individuals. Biden will face pressure from Democrat candidates and isn’t a shoo-in for the party’s bid for 2024.

The latest opinion poll figures (Nov. 1st) from 538 have Biden narrowly behind Donald Trump 49% to 51% among registered voters.

Gavin Newsom

The third favourite to become the next President of the United States is Gavin Newsom at odds of 7/1. Those odds imply that Gavin Newsom has a 12.5% chance of winning the 2024 US Presidential Election.

Newsom had been a 10/1 shot to win the upcoming United States Presidential Election but has seen his odds cut recently as he is now seen as a serious threat to challenge Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination.

Previous Political Experience

Gavin Newsom is currently the Governor of California. He has been in office as Governor of California since January 2019.

The 56-year-old Democrat party member was previously better known as a businessman in the early 1990s before turning his attention to politics. The Governor of California still has a number of investments and stakes in different companies to this day.

In the political realm Newsom comes from humble beginnings having first been appointed to a vacant seat on a parking and traffic commission in 1996. Since then he has risen up the ranks to hold positions such as being on the board of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Mayor of San Francisco, and Lieutenant Governor of California before taking office in his current position of Governor of California.

2024 US Presidential Election Chances

According to the latest betting odds Gavin Newsom is the biggest threat to beat Joe Biden to the Democratic nomination. Odds of 7/1 on Newsom look attractive as he not only has plenty of political pedigree behind him but also offers a much younger and fresh-faced option compared to Trump (77) and Biden (80).

Newsom’s biggest challenge is likely securing the Democratic Party nomination over Joe Biden. If he can do that then I would favour him over Trump in a one-on-one race for the White House, assuming Trump secures the Republican Party nomination that is.

Nikki Haley

Up next in the betting is Nikki Haley who is a 14/1 shot to win the 2024 US Presidential Election. Those odds imply that Nikki Haley has a 7.7% chance of becoming the next President of the United States.

Haley was previously as short as 12/1 to become the next US President but has since drifted out in the betting odds to her current odds of 14/1.

Previous Political Experience

The 51-year-old is a former Governor of South Carolina, an office she held from 2011 to 2017. Previous to holding office as Governor of South Carolina Haley served as a representative in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011.

The former Governor of South Carolina has an interesting relationship with Donald Trump. During the 2016 US Presidential Election, she had been very critical of Trump. First Haley supported US Senator Marco Rubio for the Republican nomination and after Rubio dropped out of the race she turned her support to Ted Cruz.

Despite her opposition to Trump in the leadup to the 2016 election, Haley would later achieve her highest political office under the Trump Administration when she was nominated by the 45th US President to be his United States Ambassador to the United Nations. Haley became the first Indian-American to hold a position as a cabinet-level officer.

It’s worth noting that throughout her tenure as Ambassador to the United Nations Haley was a strong advocate for Israel in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This will likely be a key topic in the 2024 US Presidential Election campaign.

2024 US Presidential Election Chances

Haley is the biggest threat to Donald Trump in the race for the Republican Party nomination according to the latest betting odds.

The former United States Ambassador to the United Nations boasts political pedigree both in the realm of domestic and foreign policy. That experience in domestic policy in particular should give her a leg up on the other Republican candidates (excluding Donald Trump).

Haley will appeal to the more traditional Republican voter but whether that will be enough to overcome Trump’s staunch support remains to be seen.

Looking further ahead, if Haley were to win the Republican nomination, she would also benefit from the fact that she is considered a ‘moderate’ Republican which would mean she would appeal to a large chunk of the electorate that voted Democrat in the last election.

Next US Presidential Election Date

The next US Presidential Election will take place on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024. The next US President will be elected following the result of that election.

The 2024 US Presidential Election will be the 60th quadrennial presidential election in the history of the United States of America.

When Will The Next US President Take Office?

The winner of the 2024 United States presidential election is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 20, 2025. Inauguration Day as it is termed is always on January 20th. This has been the case since 1937 following an amendment to the US Constitution.

How Many US Presidents Have There Been?

There have been 46 presidencies including the current president and 45 people have served as president. George Washington was the first president of the country taking oath on April 30th 1789 and the latest president is Joe Biden who was inaugurated in January 2021.

Meanwhile, in Ireland the race to become the next Irish President is heating up and we previewed the next President of Ireland odds in a recent post.
