The Northern Ireland Premier Division is well under-way, three game days into the season last seasons Champions Larne lead the way with seven points, while Glenavon are bottom of the table on zero points due to their goal difference of -6.

We have looked at the favourites in a separate post here.

Ballymena v Linfield

When? 7.45 pm, Friday 18th August

Where? Ballymena Showgrounds, Antrim

How To Watch? N/a

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Ballymena are 13/2, Linfield are 1/3 while the draw is 15/4.

Preview

Ballymena are currently second from bottom of the Northern Ireland Premiership following three defeats from their opening three matches, confirming what many expected to be another difficult year for the club. In their opening game of the season they went 0-1 up against Coleraine before a Matthew Shevlin double sunk them, in their second game they lost 1-2 again this time to Crusaders before being routinely dispatched by Larne 3-0 last time out.

Linfield looking to return to the summit of Northern Irish Football this season have started exactly as they would’ve wanted with two wins from two games a narrow 2-3 win against Dungannon and a 4-2 win against Glenavon on Monday. The key signing earmarked at the beginning of the season for them Matthew Fitzpatrick is yet to score for the club.

Ballymena 1-3 Linfield

Cliftonville v Carrick

When? 3.00  pm, Saturday, 19th August

Where? Solitude, Belfast

How To Watch? N/a

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Cliftonville can be gotten at 4/9, Carrick are 9/2, and the draw is 10/3.

Preview

Cliftonville have been rampant so far this season with a 3-0 victory against Glenavon and another 0-3 victory against Newry City on Monday to make it six points from six matches. This will be exactly the start manager Jim Magilton needed following intense criticism since his appointment in June. Interestingly from their six goals, they already have five different goal-scorers.

Carrick have been progressing nicely for a few years, they build on a fourth-place finish in the relegation section of the table to coming second-place in the relegation section last season and in the off-season, they recruited experience from the likes of Larne and Glentoran. Carrick had a disappointing 0-2 defeat against Newry in their first game of the season but followed that up with an excellent 2-0 victory against Coleraine on Monday.

Prediction

Cliftonville 2-0 Carrick

Dungannon Swifts v Loughgall

When? 3.00 pm, Saturday 19th August

Where? Stangmore Park, Tyrone

How To Watch? N/a

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Dungannon can be gotten at 13/8, Loughgall are 13/10 while the draw is 5/2.

Preview

Dungannon only have one point from their opening three games, but that doesn’t tell the full story. They travelled to reigning Champions Larne for their opening match playing out an entertaining draw live on tv, that result was followed up by a narrow 2-3 defeat against Linfield but were beaten by Crusaders 2-0 in their most recent match. This match will be a better gauge of where they stand in the league against newly promoted Loughgall.

Fresh off promotion from their Championship victory 69 points, 65 goals and a watertight defence only conceding 20 goals. Questions remained whether Loughgall had the quality to mix it up with the top teams in Northern Ireland. Three games into the season they sit on three points from their first three games, winning 0-3 against Newry, losing 1-2 against Coleraine and losing 0-1 against Glentoran showing they are tough to beat at a minimum.

Prediction

Dungannon 0-2 Loughgall

Glenavon v Newry City

When? 3.00 pm, Saturday 19th August

Where? Loughview Leisure Arena, Taylors Avenue, Carrickfergus

How To Watch? N/a

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Glenavon  can be gotten at 3/4,  Newry are 3/1, while the draw is 11/4

Preview

Glenavon have started the season disappointingly losing their first three games 0-1 against Glentoran, 3-0 against Cliftonville and 4-2 against Linfield. While they would’ve wanted at least a point or two to start their season, they certainly could’ve had an easier start than those three games. This should be a far more winnable game but I wonder if a lack of confidence could catch them in this match.

Newry had a poor start to the season last week with an opening weekend 0-3 defeat against newly promoted Loughgall which was not the start of the season they would’ve wanted.  However, in their next game, they faced Carrick and had a 0-2 victory. Most recently they lost comprehensively to Cliftonville 0-3.

Prediction

Glenavon 1-1  Newry

Draw 11/4

Glentoran v Crusaders

When? 3.00 pm, Saturday 19th August

Where? The Oval, Belfast

How To Watch? N/a

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Glentoran are 20/23, Crusaders are 11/4, and the draw is 12/5.

Preview

Glentoran have had a decent start to the season, following their dramatic European exit 13-14 on penalties, they escaped a European hangover with a 0-1 win over Glenavon in their opening match. They had a narrow 1-2 defeat against Larne in their next match before beating Loughgall 0-1 on Monday Night. I noted at the start of the season that I had been impressed with their recruitment and the evidence suggests that so far with Daire O’Connor in particular being excellent since signing.

Crusaders currently lie in fourth place ahead of Glentoran on goal difference of six points with two wins from their two matches. Following their dramatic 5-4 on aggregate European exit to Rosenberg, they have continued in sold form with a 1-2 victory against Ballymena and a 2-0 win against Dungannon.  However, Glentoran at home should prove a much stiffer test of their season credentials.

Prediction

Glentoran 2-2  Crusaders

Coleraine v Larne

When? 3.00  pm, Saturday, 19th August

Where? The Showgrounds, Derry

How To Watch?

MATCH BETTING ODDS

Coleraine can be gotten at 21/10, Larne are 6/5, and the draw is 11/5.

Preview

Coleraine commence their season with two narrow victories, 2-1 against Ballymena and 1-2 against Loughgall and arguably would’ve been expected to be more comfortable in those games. They followed that up on Monday with a shock 2-0 defeat against Carrick and questions could be asked already about their early season credentials about having a better season this year.

Reigning League Champions Larne have started the season where they left off last year with seven points in their opening three games 4-4 opener against Dungannon, a 1-2 win against Glentoran and a 1-2 and a 3-0 win against Ballymena. They will be expected to be thereabouts again this year and I’d fancy them to beat an out-of-sorts Coleraine in this one.

Prediction

Coleraine 0-2 Larne

Winning Margin Larne By Exactly 2 Goals 11/2
