Contenders Jostle For BBC Award

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards betting market has been thrown into upheaval after a ground breaking weekend of sport.

Andy Murray is now the second favourite for his second SPOTY award, shortening into 15/8 from 7/2 after making history by winning the Davis Cup for Great Britain for the first time since 1936.

Newly crowned World Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has been slashed for the award and can now be backed at 5/1 from his outsider price of 80/1 off the back of his win. Should he win, Fury would be the fifth ever boxer to win the award, joining Joe Calzaghe, Lennox Lewis, Barry McGuigan and Henry Cooper.

Jamie Vardy has entered the SPOTY betting at 22/1 after breaking a Premier League goal scoring record on Saturday in Leicester’s clash with Man United by netting in his 11th consecutive game.

Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton is on the drift and is now 10/1 from 11/2 as support falls away after he failed to win any of the final three Grand Prix races of the season.

Jessica Ennis-Hill remains the favourite to walk away with the award, but has been pushed out to Even money from 4/6 as the competition grows fierce.
