Ronnie Rockets Up Sports Personality Betting

Ronnie O’Sullivan has been the subject of a gamble to be crowned Sports Personality of the Year after a dominant display in front of returning spectators at the World Championship final.

‘The Rocket’ came within one frame of wrapping up the final with a session to spare on Sunday afternoon, rendering the evening session a procession towards his sixth career World title.

Having broken off at this year’s Crucible event as a 20/1 shot to land the BBC Sports Personality of the Year gong, O’Sullivan had already closed into 11/2 with BoyleSports before the final.

But that was swallowed up as he dominated Kyren Wilson in the Sheffield showdown, leaving O’Sullivan the 5/2 second favourite to walk off with the coveted BBC trophy this year.

Boxer Tyson Fury is therefore clinging on to favouritism at 6/4 with a third fight against American Deontay Wilder still planned before the end of the year. Lewis Hamilton is the 3/1 third favourite from 11/2 following his Spanish Grand Prix victory, with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford also in the picture at 4/1.

At 5/2 from 20/1 last week, Ronnie O’Sullivan is firmly in the frame for the SPOTY award after cruising in the World Championship final.

With events like the Olympics and the Ryder Cup postponed, competition is not what it could have been so moves like this could well prove significant come awards night.
