‘Partygate’ Row Triggers Gamble On Boris Johnson Being Axed As Tory Leader

Boris Johnson is now on borrowed time in Downing Street according to the latest odds after new allegations of a lockdown party at Number 10 piled pressure on the Prime Minister.

Labour was granted an urgent question in the House of Commons on Tuesday after a leaked e-mail revealed up to 100 people were invited to the party in May 2020, which witnesses say was attended by Johnson himself in contravention of lockdown rules at the time.

Some Conservative MPs are reported to be privately furious at the new revelations and that’s reflected in the betting.

We have now slashed the odds on the PM being replaced this year into odds-on at 4/6 from 3/1 at the start of the year.

A YouGov poll this week also suggested nearly half of Conservative members believe Rishi Sunak would make a better party leader than Johnson and the Chancellor leads the betting at 7/4 to replace him ahead of Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who is the 3/1 second favourite.
