Pestana Strengthens BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Claims

Pestana is the one to beat in the race to become the new BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby champion after last year’s winner Lenson Bocko surrendered his crown at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night.

The defending champion was beaten into third place by Toolmaker Sydney in the opening heat, but it was the last heat that featured the hot favourite to go on and claim the title as Pestana followed up his record breaking display with another blistering performance.

Owen McKenna’s star has been gambled into 3/1 from 11/2 with BoyleSports to claim the title, with Newinn Taylor plummeting into 4/1 second favourite from 12/1 after clocking an impressive 29.11 in Saturday’s third heat. Glengar Bale is the third favourite at 9/2 from 7/1 after justifying hot odds-on favouritism in heat five.

BoyleSports Xtra finished second the heat won by Newinn Taylor and is now a 20/1 shot having started the contest out at 66/1.

Pestana has been backed significantly since he broke the track record and his popularity in the market doesn’t look like receding after another impressive performance.

Newinn Taylor was however slightly faster at the weekend and is the biggest danger to the favourite now at 4/1 from 12/1.
