Leo Varadkar Backed In To Be Gone By Summer

A Fine Gael leadership election could be on the agenda this summer if the latest betting is anything to go by after Irish punters backed the pressure to tell on Leo Varadkar.

It was confirmed at the weekend that an initial inquiry into the leak of a confidential health document by Varadkar to a friend when he was Taoiseach has been upgraded to a full criminal investigation.

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald, who branded the affair as an ‘abuse of power,’ has called on Varadkar to resign but

now punters are starting to believe he is on shaky ground after backing him into 6/1 from 20/1 with BoyleSports

…to be replaced as Fine Gael leader by June.

Varadkar is also down to just 2/1 from 10/1 not to resume Taoiseach duties by the start of next year as scheduled, with Simon Coveney (4/7) and Simon Harris (5/1) the two leading contenders should a party leadership election be triggered.
