WORLD CUP GROUP STAGE FORMAT

The group stages of the World Cup are played in a round-robin format. This means that each team plays the other three teams in their group once.

The two teams with the most points from each group will qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament. If two teams are tied on points, then the team with the better goal difference will advance. If two teams are also tied on goal difference, then goals scored is used to decide who goes through to the knockout phase.

The winner of group F will play the second placed team in group E in the round of 16. Meanwhile, the second placed team in group F will play the winner of group E in the round of 16.

WHAT ARE THE WORLD CUP GROUP F STADIUMS?

Al Thumama Stadium | Al Rayyan Stadium | Al Bayt Stadium | Khalifa International Stadium

There are four stadiums which will host the six group F games at the World Cup.

The Al Thumama Stadium in Al Thumama will host two of the games in group F. The Al Rayyan Stadium in Ar-Rayyan will also host two of the group’s games.

Then, both the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor and the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha will host one group F game each.

WORLD CUP GROUP F BETTING ODDS

In group F the favourites are Belgium at odds of 8/15. In Europe the Belgians are the 1st ranked team while they are 2nd in the world rankings.

The second team in the group F winner betting is Croatia at 9/4. Croatia find themselves ranked 10th out of the European teams and 12th in the FIFA world rankings.

There is a significant drop off to the 3rd favourite in group F betting where Morocco are at odds of 10/1. Morocco are the 2nd ranked team in Africa along with being the 22nd ranked nation in the world.

The team fancied the least in group F are Canada at 12/1 in the betting. The Canadians are the 4th ranked team in North America and 41st in the official world rankings.

WORLD CUP GROUP F PREDICTION

GROUP F WINNER – Croatia @ 9/4

Croatia come into this 2022 World Cup in great form with four wins and one draw in their last five international games. Should Belgium be favourite for this group? Sure. Can Croatia pip them for the top spot? Absolutely.

Let’s not forget that Croatia got all the way to the final of the last World Cup in 2018 only to be beaten by an irresistible French team then. This is an experienced Croatia side who are at their best in major international tournaments.

This will be the last World Cup for Croatian hero Luka Modric and this may well be the case for other Croatian stars like Ivan Perisic and Andrej Kramaric. I expect that these stalwarts of Croatian football will go out with a bang at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Belgium may well be the more talented team and they can still do damage in the later stages of the tournament but the value in the group winner betting is with Croatia here.

GROUP F 2ND PLACE – Belgium TO QUALIFY @ 1/10

Most will expect Belgium to win group F with all the talent that they have in their ranks. If they are topped in the group table by Croatia, like I’ve predicted, then they should still qualify with ease out of this group.

The Belgians are in ok form entering this World Cup. They lost to the Netherlands in their last international outing and have three wins, one draw and one loss in their last five games.

Much like Croatia, Qatar 2022 will most likely represent the end of the line for this golden generation of Belgian footballers. The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois won’t still be in their prime in another four years time.

I would expect this Belgium team to record facile victories over Morocco and Canada. That will be enough to see them through to the knockout stages of this tournament where they will be formidable opposition for any team.

GROUP F 3RD PLACE – Canada NOT TO QUALIFY @ 1/5

Canada do not have good World Cup pedigree. In fact, they barely have any World Cup experience at all. This tournament will be the first time this nation has competed at the FIFA World Cup since 1986, when they finished with the worst record in the competition.

This is however a new generation of Canadian footballers and this team could surprise a lot of people in the coming years. The culture in Canada is really starting to embrace the sport and we now see stars like Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies emerging from the country.

As for their chances in this World Cup group F? They’re not great honestly. This team isn’t at the level of their European group F rivals Belgium and Croatia.

In 2026 Canada will co-host the FIFA World Cup along with the USA and Mexico and they could well challenge to get out of the group stages then. For now, Canada will have to be content with a third placed finish.

GROUP F 4TH PLACE – Morocco NOT TO QUALIFY @ 2/7

Morocco will struggle in this group against Belgium and Croatia while I suspect even Canada have a decent chance of beating them. This nation don’t have a strong World Cup track record as they have only once qualified out of the group stages back in 1986.

In the last major tournament they played in, the African Cup of Nations, they advanced to the quarter finals stage only to be beaten by Mo Salah’s Egpyt. The Egyptians needed extra-time to beat Morocco in that game too.

At the 2018 World Cup Morocco only secured one point in the group stages and I would be expecting a similar total this time around.

The odds of 2/7 on Morocco not qualifying look like decent value here. You could put them in a multiple with bets from some of the seven other groups at the World Cup to get some nice odds.
