Rachael Blackmore On Course For RTÉ Sportsperson Of The Year

Rachael Blackmore’s Aintree Grand National booking has been confirmed with punters backing her to be crowned the RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year even if she doesn’t land the big race on Saturday.

The County Tipperary star finished the Cheltenham Festival last month as top jockey with her odds quickly plummeting into 1/2 from 5/4 to add her name to the Sportsperson of the Year roll of honour.

However, the talented jockey has seen her odds cut even further for the gong ahead of her ride on Minella Times in the Aintree Grand National meaning she is now a red hot 1/4 favourite.

Blackmore was the first female to be crowned leading jockey of the week at Cheltenham, but she would also become the first woman to ride a winner in the world’s most famous steeplechase on Saturday if she wins on the Henry de Bromhead-trained Minella Times, who has also shortened into 10/1 from 12/1 to win the Aintree showpiece.

Shane Lowry will be hoping to get his arms into the famous Green jacket this weekend at The Masters and some local for the Offaly man has seen the 2019 Open winner clipped into 12/1 from 16/1 this week.
