Nearly nine in ten punters in the match betting are backing Borussia Dortmund to bounce back from the shock 4-2 defeat to Rangers in the first leg.

There was a hiccup on the domestic front for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side at the weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Dundee United, allowing local rivals Celtic to go three points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

But the gloss hasn’t been taken off one of the shocks of the season which saw Rangers put themselves in pole position for a place in the last 16 draw by becoming the first Scottish side to beat Borussia Dortmund on German soil.

History Against Comeback
The first leg advantage means Rangers are now hot odds-on shots at 2/7 to progress, while Borussia Dortmund, reeling from their heaviest defeat in the competition, need to beat odds of 5/2 to keep their hopes of European silverware alive. History however is against the German side as only once has a team overturned a two-goal deficit from the first leg to come through a Europa League tie. Aspirations of a comeback also suffered a major setback on the eve of the match, with prolific striker Erling Haaland ruled out through injury.

A formidable Rangers home record also stands in Borussia Dortmund’s way as the hosts have now won nine consecutive games at Ibrox, scoring 22 in the process without conceding a single goal.

It’s Borussia Dortmund however who are odds-on at 3/4 to win in 90 minutes in the 8pm kick-off and at least they can go in with renewed confidence after a 6-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach at the weekend, which kept them within six points of Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga.

Goals
Marco Reus played a part in five of the six goals as he was credited with three assists while bagging two for himself, and he is a 6/4 shot to find the net again, while the first goalscorer betting now rates him at 6/1 from 13/2 to give Borussia Dortmund the start they need by breaking the deadlock.

Alfredo Morelos meanwhile is the pick of the bunch for Rangers in the goalscoring markets. The Colombian is Rangers’ all-time leading scorer in Europe and has now scored 10 goals in 13 games since Giovanni van Bronckhorst took charge.

He added to his tally in the first leg and also has three in his last two matches on home turf, so is a popular 15/8 shot to boost Rangers’ qualification hopes further with another goal on Thursday.
