Repeal The Eighth Referendum 2/1 To Happen In 2018

As the Oireachtas Committee on the Eighth Amendment call for a referendum on abortion to be held as early as May 2018, we have released the odds on a possible referendum next year.

People Before Profit TD Bríd Smith is urging for an early referendum in May to repeal the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution,

suggesting that young people, who are driving the demand for the vote, will not be around thereafter.

At present it is 2/1 that the Eighth Amendment Referendum will take place in 2018 whilst the odds are red hot at 1/3 that the referendum will not take place next year, given that a General Election appears likely in the new year.

The pressure is mounting for a referendum as the majority of TDs and Senators on the Oireachtas Committee on Abortion are expected to vote in favour of a referendum in the vote which takes place next week.
