Robbie Power on Jetz, A Horse To Follow & A Weekend Racing Review

Jetz won the Grade 3 Novice Chase at Navan on Saturday and won it well.

Duca De Thaix was favourite but obviously he didn’t turn up on the day and was well beaten from half a mile from home. But it was a good performance from Jetz. He jumped out well and made all the running. He won’t go to Cheltenham but he’ll be entered in maybe Ayr, Aintree or Fairyhouse and see if he can win another one. There’s a Grade 2 Novice Chase in Ayr that’d be an option for him over 2 1/2 miles. There’s also one in Aintree over 2 1/2 miles as well.

I think he’s a shade better going left-handed as well so they’d be two options for him.

Saturday Rides
I’d five rides at Newbury on Saturday. Slate House ran well in the Novice Chase and finished second. It was a much-improved run from his last run. He’s had a few little problems and I think when he gets his confidence back he’s going to be a force to be reckoned with. I expect him to improve for it again.

I rode a very nice horse in the bumper called Faustinovick, who runs in the same colours as Lost In Translation. He made a very decent debut and was second in a good bumper won by a Paul Nicholls horse that had already won a bumper in Chepstow. He ran a good race though and is a horse to follow. He’ll probably go for another bumper and he’s a horse to keep an eye on.

He’s a big raw horse who will improve and will probably win a bumper on his next start.

Then after that it’s what he does next season and the season after that. He could be a very smart horse.

Sunday
Polished Steel ran a decent race in the 2 Mile Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown, finishing fourth. He was probably coming back a bit quick following his run in Fairyhouse last week. He’ll have a break now for a couple of weeks until the Fairyhouse Easter Festival.

Jett ran well and finished third in the Handicap Chase. He’d top weight but stayed on it well. We had a proper gallop in that race. He jumped better and it was a good performance and he was only beaten by a length and a half.
