Robbie Power On The Dublin Racing Festival & More

We’ve been having an unseasonable year so far which is unfortunate but it could make for a fascinating clash for the Red Mills Chase in Gowran Park in two weeks time.

I’d imagine Monalee, Balko Des Flos, Sizing John, Presenting Percy and maybe Footpad will all go there so that could be a fascinating race.

Lostintranslation
It was a good battle, 2 horses renewing rivalry from Cheltenham, Defi Du Seuil turning the tables on Lostintranslation. Not a big suprise for me knowing Lostintranslation, he’s a much better horse on quicker ground. If he was to get good ground again at Cheltenham, I could see him turning the tables on Defi Du Seuil. There’s not a lot between the pair of them. Back in Cheltenham on better ground I’d fancy my chances on Lostintranslation reversing form.

Dublin Racing Festival – Day 1
Commander Of Fleet

Big step up in trip from, his run in the Royal Bond, a good performance he needed every yard in the trip. I’d imagine the Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle would be a target for him he probably needs a stamina test.

Apple’s Jade
Apple’s Jade was breathtaking yesterday, I rode Supasundae and he’s run a very good race. If you went strictly on the form book put a line through Melon who was fourth, Buveur D’air has absolutely no chance of beating Apple’s Jade in the Champion Hurdle. If she turns up in that kind of form she’s probably unbeatable.

Le Richebourg
Very very good performance again, at the moment he probably deserves to be favourite for the Arkle, his form is rock solid. My only worry with him if you’re having an antepost bet on him for the Arkle is if Cheltenham turns up soft I’d say he could be very vulnerable on soft ground. On good ground he ticks a lot of boxes for the Arkle, he stays very well, stamina is not an issue and you need a horse that stays well to win the Arkle.

Min
It was a good performance, the race was marred by the injury to Special Tiara and Castlegrace Paddy falling early as well. There wasn’t a lot of strength and depth to the race, Min was perfectly entitled to beat Ordinary World and Saint Calvados the way he did on that ground. What’ll his target be in Cheltenham? I don’t know I’d imagine maybe the Ryanair Chase is more of a realistic target.

Envoi Allen
He had a good performance. Jamie Codd made plenty of use out of him, he stayed going well and he is probably entitled to be the favourite for the Champion Bumper.

Dublin Racing Festival – Day 2
Sir Erec

Joseph O’Brien has a very very strong hand with juveniles. It was a good performance from Sir Erec. He won comfortably, dictated the race from the front and got everything his own way. It’s going to be interesting for the Triumph. I think it’d be a big shock if Joseph didn’t win the Triumph Hurdle. I was very impressed with Sir Erec, he’s going to be a very very good hurdler.

Klassical Dream & Aramon
It was a brave call from Ruby to get off Aramon to ride a horse that’s only won a maiden hurdle. Good performance, obviously Klassical Dream was giving all the right signs at home and proved Ruby’s decision right. Going forward there’s definitely no banker for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, the market is wide open.

Whisperinthebreeze
Brilliant win for Whisperinthebreeze. He bounces off that good ground. He’ll have an entry in the BoyleSports Irish Grand National and if he gets good ground he could be an interesting player. He stays really well and that was a great performance.

Irish Gold Cup
Disappointing to have 6 non-runners but it just goes to show you don’t need a big field to have a great race. Road To Respect had a few jumping errors and probably cost him in the end although he did go down and jump the last very well. It was a good performance from Bellshill. Did we see the winner of a Gold Cup in it? I don’t think so. I think they fall a bit short of the likes of Presenting Percy, Thistlecrack and Native River.
