Samcro’s Impressive Chasing Debut Leads To Cheltenham Price Cut

All eyes were on Down Royal on Friday as racing lovers eagerly awaited the return of Samcro on his chasing debut after 307 days off the track.

The 7-year old, trained by Meath man Gordon Elliott, won by seventeen lengths at Down Royal on day one of their November festival obliging for favourite backers at 1/3 under Keith Donoghue.

We have since trimmed the son of Germany into 7/1 from 10/1 for the JLT, 12/1 from 25/1 for the RSA and 10/1 from 14/1 for the Arkle.

Samcro impressed from an early stage in his career particularly when winning the 2018 running of the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle to beat Black Op, who subsequently made a winning start on Thursday at Stratford also in a beginners’ chase.

Another Gordon Elliott star that caught the eye was Coeur Sublime as he cruised to victory to land the Grade Two race of the day under champion jockey Davy Russell.

This 4-year old, who was runner up in the Triumph Hurdle back in March, is now 20/1 from 33/1 for the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham next year.
