Scottie Scheffler The Open Odds – Texan Eyes Major #2 At Hoylake

We have Scottie Scheffler The Open odds for you as the American looks to add a second major to his trophy cabinet this July at Hoylake.

So, does Scheffler have what it takes to win on links golf courses? What’s his form like heading into the year’s final major? We go through it all in this post as we analyse his chances at winning the 2023 Open Championship.

Scottie Scheffler’s The Open Betting Odds

Scottie Scheffler is 9/1 in the betting odds to win The Open Championship in 2023. Those odds imply that Scheffler has a 10% chance at winning this year’s Open Championship.

That makes Scheffler the second favourite in the betting market behind only Rory Mcllroy, who is currently priced at 15/2.

Scottie is ranked number 1 in the world and 2nd in the FedEx Money List. This is a testament to his consistent form on course during the 2023 season; he has 18 cuts made from 18 events this season, 2 wins, 1 runners-up prize and 14 Top-10 finishes.

Victory at Royal Liverpool would see him win his second-ever major title following his 2022 Masters victory.

Scottie Scheffler’s Current Form

Scottie Scheffler’s 2023 Form

The 27-year-old American is quickly carving out a reputation for himself as Mr. Consistent on the PGA Tour. He has not missed a cut from all his appearances this season with his worst finish being T45 at the CJ Cup which was his first tournament of the season. His next worst finish was T12 at the Genesis Invitational! Scheffler’s level of consistency is just incredible.

Scheffler’s most recent victory came back in March at the acclaimed  “fifth major”, the Players Championship. Many golf pundits will tell you that The Players is the best field in golf. That meant nothing to Scheffler as he blitzed the field to win by five shots with a -17 under final score.

The Texan’s other victory this season came at the Phoenix Open back in February, where he shot -19 under to finish two shots clear of second-placed Nick Taylor.

Here are Scottie Scheffler’s last five tournament finishes:

Travelers Championship – T4th

US Open – 3rd

The Memorial – 3rd

Charles Schwab Challenge – T3rd

The PGA Championship – T2

So that’s five consecutive top 5s!

Recent Major Form

Scheffler has been his consistent self in this year’s major championships. He has finished in the top-10 in each of the first three majors of the year and two of those were top-5 finishes.

In his Masters defence he finished a respectable T10 before doing the honours of awarding Jon Rahm his first green jacket. The American followed this up with a T2 finish at the PGA Championship. Following that, he led the tournament in strokes gained tee-to-green but it was his putter that let him down that week which has become a trend this season.

At the most recent major, the US Open, Scheffler once again found himself at the business end of the leaderboard on the final day. In the end, he had to settle for 3rd as he was unable to catch Wyndham Clark who recorded a surprise first major victory.

Scottie Scheffler Open Championship Form

Scheffler has never won The Open Championship.

He has only appeared at The Open on two occasions.

In 2021 he finished T8 while he had an uncharacteristic T21 finish last time out in 2022.

Although it is a small sample size, those finishes suggest that Scheffler’s game is suited to links golf and with more experience it’s hard not to fancy him at this year’s Open Championship.

Scottie Scheffler Major Wins

Scottie Scheffler’s sole major success came when he won the 2022 Masters. He will be hoping to cement his place in the history books further by winning The Open and, by doing so, becoming a multiple time major champion.
