Seeley’s Selections – Arsenal v Southampton Tips

The cracks are beginning to show down at St Mary’s and after a fantastic start to the Premier League season, are Southampton’s wheels about to fall off?

The big tests are coming thick and fast for Ronald Koeman’s men and on Wednesday night, they face yet another massive task when they travel to the Emirates to take on Arsenal. I really can’t see anything other than a convincing home win in this one.

The Saints were brushed aside 3-0 by 10 man champions Manchester City at the weekend but the warning signs were there in the performance at Villa Park the week before when they were held to a 1-1 draw with strugglers Aston Villa. Ronald Koeman lost influential midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin through injury just before half-time against City and he’s team struggled without him and they will again be without the Frenchman’s services on Wednesday night.

Saints backers at Boylesports’ offer of 4/1 will take some heart from the 2-1 Capital One Cup win over the Gunners back in September, but with key injuries and a loss of form, I think this is the perfect time for Arsene Wenger’s side to gain revenge. Arsenal are odds-on at 3/4 to win this with Boylesports and that’s got to be snapped up in my opinion.

Before their defeat in the Capital One Cup, the Gunners had gone 20 matches unbeaten against Southampton and the last time the Saints went marching in with a league win was way back in 1987.

In that long unbeaten run there has been some very one-sided wins for the Londoners and I think this could be an easy night at the office for the home side. The Gunners to win to nil at Boylesports’ offer of 2/1 looks a sensible option compared to the 3/4 as in their last two matches, they’ve won to nil in both against Borussia Dortmund and West Brom.

After a run of three games without a win, the Wenger Boys have looked in those two games much more Arsenal like and I can see them putting in a very professional performance and coming through by a 2-0 scoreline which is a worthy wager at 15/2 with Boylesports.

Danny Welbeck scored the opener in midweek and he’s Boylesports’ 4/1 joint favourite to grab the first goal in this one, but I’m going to take Olivier Giroud to net first goal at the same price 4/1. The Frenchman scored a cracker against Manchester United in his last home appearance and last season you would of made a very healthy profit by backing Giroud to score first in all the Emirates matches and now after a lengthy lay off, it’s time to start making some readies again.
