Shane Lowry Backed To Be Europe’s Top Scorer At Ryder Cup

Irish punters are already getting behind Shane Lowry to star in the Ryder Cup for Europe after he was handed a wildcard by captain Padraig Harrington on Sunday evening.

The Offaly man missed out on automatic qualification for the team when he finished 17th at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, but was later handed a Ryder Cup debut when named alongside Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter as Harrington’s picks.

The world number 40 was then chalked up at 12/1 to be the top scorer on the European side and has already been clipped into 11/1,

…while the chances of him finishing as top overall points scorer at Whistling Straits have been backed down to 25/1 from 28/1.

US Open champion Jon Rahm is the 3/1 favourite to top score for Harrington’s side, with Rory McIlroy a close second favourite at 9/2.

Europe, who have won four out of the last five contests, will start as underdogs on American soil, but a tie will be enough to retain the trophy and they are now 8/5 shots from 5/2 to take it back across the Atlantic.

Bet on the Ryder Cup.
