Should Brendan Rodgers Be Sacked? Neil Lennon Gives His Thoughts

A poor first half of the Premier League season for Leicester has seen pressure mount on manager Brendan Rodgers.

We caught up with former Leicester player and experienced manager Neil Lennon to get his thoughts on the state of affairs at the King Power Stadium.

Lennon also offers insight into Rodgers’ decision to leave Celtic back in 2019 and Man City’s chances of catching Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title.

Leicester are only three points away from the relegation zone, does Brendan Rodgers need to be sacked?

Brendan Rodgers has had a difficult start to the season and did not really buy any players. Losing Wesley Fofana was a big loss too.

Rodgers got Leicester to play good football again before the World Cup break. I’d like to see the board give Rodgers some support in this January transfer window.

Now years have passed, do you think he made the right choice leaving Celtic when he did?

Brendan Rodgers left Celtic for professional and personal reasons. Leicester City are a big club with smart people running it in the background. Rodgers has had success winning the FA Cup, it’s not easy to do with Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea in the competition.

Whether he made the right decision to leave Celtic, you have to ask Rodgers that because it’s a big decision.

Do Leicester need to keep Youri Tielemans from joining Arsenal if they want a chance to survive?

Youri Tielemans is pivotal to the way Leicester City play, his goals before the World Cup break were world-class. Tielemans might want to go, but I’d like to think Leicester can keep him rather than sell him.

Tielemans is good enough to start for Arsenal, it would be a big job for Tielemans because Arsenal are flying at the minute. I want Tielemans to stay at Leicester.

Do Leicester have to keep James Maddison?

James Maddison has to stay, he’s Leicester’s best player and has been a big loss due to his injury. Maddison has to stay, otherwise, Leicester City could face relegation trouble.

Of course Newcastle United is an attractive destination for Maddison, Leicester needs to sign players to convince him to stay. It doesn’t surprise me that the top clubs are after him.

Have Manchester City dropped too many points now to catch Arsenal?

In a normal season, we’d be over halfway in, but we’re still a couple of games short because of the World Cup. Manchester City still have to play Arsenal twice, which could close the seven-point gap and be pivotal in the title race.

Manchester City’s home form has not been good enough recently, against Everton they looked short of ideas. They’ll find their form again in the second half of the season. Erling Haaland has been outstanding and will make a difference in the Champions League.

Are Man City missing the killer threat on the wings they used to have with Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling? Is there someone they should sign to bring that pace and goals back to the wings?

Everyone is talking about Erling Haaland with the volume of goals he’s scoring, but Pep Guardiola should look at other areas to bolster the attack. Manchester City need more goals from the wide players and the midfield.

Leroy Sane is still a top player who is in and out of the Bayern Munich team, he was dynamite at Manchester City. With the way he left, I’m not sure if the door is open for a return or not.

Nottingham Forest are set to sell Emmanuel Dennis and sign more players, is that the right move?

Nottingham Forest’s turnover of players in the summer was incredible, I’ve never seen anything like it. The fact that they’re looking to bring more players shows the intent that they’re trying their hardest to stay in the Premier League.

Emmanuel Dennis has not worked out for him or for Forest. It would not be a good idea to sell him to any team around Forest in the table that may battle against relegation, it might backfire on Forest.
