Simon Zebo Exclusive: I Got Six Nations Call From Farrell

Simon Zebo teamed up with BoyleSports to preview Ireland’s Six Nations opener against France this Friday in Marseille.

Ireland are 6/4 to win with BoyleSports. Don’t Just bet… Choose Wisely.

The Irish winger, who spoke exclusively to BoyleSports at the Sandymount Hotel in Dublin, has revealed how close he was to being recalled to the Irish squad for the Six Nations and his ambitions to make a return to the national team setup.

Zebo also gave us his verdict on what we can expect from this Irish side in their first competitive game since their World Cup heartbreak to the All Blacks plus his France v Ireland prediction.

A Recall To The Irish Squad?

I’d say I was pretty close. I was close enough to warrant a phone call off Andy Farrell which was nice.

I’ve been in good form, scoring some good tries and playing well. That was the main thing – getting a run of games together which I hadn’t done in quite a while through injury.

Obviously, I’m disappointed. I would have loved to be in Portugal (training camp) with the lads and going into week 1 of the Six Nations, but it wasn’t to be. All I can try to do is stay healthy and keep putting in big performances in big games and the rest will take care of itself.

I’m not too far away, so another few big performances and I should throw my hat in the ring for the summer tour maybe, who knows. I’ve no quarrels and I’m just excited to keep producing my best rugby.

Don’t Expect World Cup Hangovers From France Or Ireland

I think Ireland and France will be hurting after the World Cup. They have something to prove and both will be unhappy with just making the quarter-finals. So we can expect an explosive start to the Six Nations and some nice attacking rugby.

I don’t see a World Cup hangover at all. I see two teams, arguably the best in the world or thereabouts, going out after it, so it should be a cracker.

France is a unique place in terms of the atmosphere for rugby games. It’s just an incredible place to play rugby and the Stade Velodrome of course is a spectacular stadium. I’m sure the Irish fans will turn out, but you can imagine it’s going to be a very hostile place to play your rugby.

Simon Zebo’s France v Ireland Prediction

I see Ireland winning a very close, hard-fought physical game. You can see France hurting us a lot by coming out and having an explosive 20 minutes and racking up a big score early.

But I’ll go with my head and say Ireland will be able to withstand any early purple patch and come through with the result.
