Support For Shane Lowry To Retain Claret Jug

Irish punters are hoping Shane Lowry’s two-year reign as Open champion continues this week after backing him to bag a second career major at Royal St. George’s in Kent.

The current World No.44 goes into the final major of the year as defending champion following the cancellation of last year’s event.

The odds on him retaining the Claret Jug shortened after we extended our each-way terms, meaning punters will see returns for any each-way selection finishing in the top twelve places including ties.

A subsequent rush of each-way support behind the Offaly man has seen him clipped into 28/1 from 33/1 to win The Open

…for a second time as he now prepares to tee it up at his shortest price for any of the big four events this year.

Lowry is a 7/4 shot to finish as the best of the Irish, while two-time Open winner Padraig Harrington was backed into 5/1 from 8/1 to outscore his compatriots after finishing just inside the top 20 at the Scottish Open.

Jon Rahm is the 13/2 favourite as he seeks to win his second major championship in a row following his breakthrough at last month’s US Open at Torrey Pines.

Rory McIlroy however is being well backed to follow in the footsteps of Darren Clarke by winning around the Sandwich links and is 12/1 from 14/1 to end a seven-year major championship drought.
