Supsasundae Jockey Robbie Power Eyes Champion Hurdle Coup

Supasundae could feature at the business end of this year’s renewal of the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham according to jockey Robbie Power, after he finished second to Sharjah at Leopardstown’s Christmas Festival.

The former Gold Cup winner took to his blog on Tuesday to look ahead to 2019 and said that Supasundae will likely try to deny Buveur d’Air a third consecutive Champion Hurdle crown on day one of the Festival.

He said: “I thought Supasundae ran a cracking race when 2nd in the Ryanair Hurdle on Saturday and I was delighted with him. His options will be kept open, he’ll be entered in the Stayers’ Hurdle and Champion Hurdle. He’s a very consistent horse, always runs his race and I think if he was to go to the Champion Hurdle, which is a strong possibility, the 16/1 at the moment could be a good each-way antepost bet.”

Power also gave an update on Sizing John, who is currently a 14/1 shot in antepost market for the Gold Cup behind 3/1 Presenting Percy:

“Everything is still going to plan with Sizing John. The ground wouldn’t have suited him at Leopardstown so we were happy to leave him at home. He’ll be geared up towards the Kinlough Brae Chase in Thurles. With the help of God it will start raining soon because the weather at the moment is very unseasonable. He is one I get wait to get back on the racecourse.”
