Top 10 Most Valuable Fantasy Football Players

Logging into my Fantasy Football team for the first time in ages I was surprised to see that am languishing around 1,100,000th out of 3,381,000 players worldwide, despite having most of the big names – Rooney, Fabregas, Baines, Mata et al.

So, were was I going wrong? They may all be “big name” players but their cost per Fantasy Football point earned just ain’t worth it.

Here’s the top ten most valuable players in this season’s Fantasy Football based on how much each point would cost you. And hardly a “big name” in sight.

Ryan Bertrand

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - West Ham United v Southampton - Upton Park

What do you do when you sell one of Britain’s most promising left-backs to Manchester United? Simply replace him with another prodigy, who failed to progress at Chelsea after making his Champions League debut for them in the final in Munich in 2012.
Cost per point – £78,000

Nathaniel Clyne

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Southampton v Manchester City - St Mary's

But what do you do when you sell one of Britain’s most promising right-backs to Arsenal? Simply replace him with a player who’d often kept him out of your first team last season anyway. Clyne’s form since Calum Chambers’ departure has led to a first England call-up for the former Crystal Palace full-back.

Cost per point – £79,000

Daryl Janmaat

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Burnley v Newcastle United - Turf Moor

Many members of Holland’s World Cup squad were much sought-after following the tournament, and Newcastle’s capture of Daryl Janmaat seems quite a coup. The Dutchman has scored once, assisted three goals and kept five clean sheets since his arrival from Feyenoord.

Cost per point – £82,000

Leonardo Ulloa

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Leicester City v Liverpool - King Power Stadium

Eyebrows were raised when newly-promoted Leicester City broke their transfer record in the summer, splurging £8 million on Brighton’s Argentine striker. Critics, who pointed out his lack of experience at the top level, have since been silenced. Ulloa has been a rare shining light for the bottom-of-the-table Foxes, scoring six goals already this season.

Cost per point – £82,000

Stewart Downing

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - West Ham United v Newcastle United - Upton Park

The much-maligned Downing has profited more than most from Sam Allardyce’s change of direction this season at West Ham. The former Liverpool winger has spent much of this campaign as more of a number 10, and the Hammers’ newly-found wealth of striking talent has resulted in six assists and a recall to the England squad for the former Middlesborough and Aston Villa player.

Cost per point – £83,000

Charlie Austin

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Chelsea v Queens Park Rangers - Stamford Bridge

He may have been sent-off against former club Burnley at the weekend, but without the striker’s eight league goals QPR would be in an even more precarious position than17th in the table. It’s an impressive return for the striker who was playing non-league football just five years ago and had never played top-flight football before.

Cost per point – £85,000

Brad Guzan

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Aston Villa v Arsenal - Villa Park

Aston Villa has the worst defensive record in the Premier League last season, not including the three relegated sides, so it’s no surprise that only a small percentage of Fantasy Football managers chose Brad Guzan in their team at the start of the campaign. However, they now boast the joint-ninth best defence in the league and that’s in no small part down to the American’s 48 saves and five clean sheets.

Cost per point – £87,000

Tom Heaton

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Burnley v Chelsea - Turf Moor

The former Manchester United youth player has performed admirably between the sticks in his first season in the top flight. Despite Burnley languishing second from bottom, Heaton has made 48 saves to kept four clean sheets – including one against former club United.

Cost per point – £88,000

Mile Jedinak

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Crystal Palace v Aston Villa - Selhurst Park

The Australian has simply been on fire for Crystal Palace this season. The Eagles’ captain scored just once last season but has already netted five in 12 league appearances this term. This form has led to him being transferred in by amost half a million Fantasy Football managers since the season commenced.

Cost per point – £89,000

Jose Fonte

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Southampton v West Bromwich Albion - St Mary's

Did Liverpool purchase the wrong Southampton central defender when they splashed out £20 million for Dejan Lovren? The Fantasy Football stats, and Saints insiders, would certainly suggest so. While each point the disappointing Lovren has earned has cost £175,000, his former central defensive partner at St. Mary’s has cost just £90,000 per point earned.

Cost per point – £90,000
