Tyrone’s Form

Tyrone will be playing their league football in Division 1 next year; their 4th place mid-table finish this year with a record of four wins and three defeats from their seven matches. In their league meeting with Armagh back in March they won by a 0-18 – 0-16 scoreline.

Tyrone scored 113 points in the league which was an average of 16.14 points per match that was only bettered by Mayo’s 126 points which was an average of 18 points per match.

Defensively, they were very open at the back with their 110 points conceded an average of 15.7 per match the third worst in the league after Donegal conceded 117 points and their opponents Monaghan’s total of 119.

In recent weeks their form has been poorer being knocked out of the Ulster Championship at the very first hurdle being beaten 1-18 – 2-17 by Monaghan. They were drawn with Galway, Westmeath and Armagh for the All-Ireland Group Stage and lost their opening game 0-16 – 0-13 against Galway.

Armagh’s Form

Armagh will be playing their league football in Division 2 next year, following a narrow relegation in the final round of games in a 0-18  – 0-16 defeat from Tyrone.

Kieran McGeeney’s side finished seventh in the eight-team table, with a record of two wins one draw and four defeats. Their two victories came over Ulster rivals Monaghan and Donegal while their draw came v Mayo. While Armagh had the third-worst attack in their division with 95 points scored they also had the third-best attack with only 98 points conceded.

Armagh have been flying in the Ulster Championship beating Antrim in the preliminary round 0-20 to 1-08, beating Cavan in the Quarter-Final 0-12 to 1-14 and Down in the Semi-Final 0-12 to 4-10 to earn their place in the Ulster Final

In the Ulster Final, they drew with Derry scoring 1-15 to their 0-18 AET, they would eventually lose the final 3-1 on penalties. They were drawn with Galway, Westmeath and Tyrone for the All-Ireland Group Stage and won their opening game 1-13 – 1-12 against Westmeath.

Key Players To Watch

Darren McCurry

The Right corner-forward was Tyrone’s main man during the league campaign and expect that to continue on Sunday. His league tally of 0-33 in seven matches was the highest average points haul of the top scorers averaging 4.71 points per match only Mayo’s Ryan O’Donoghue who scored 2-30 an average of 4.50 across his eight matches scored more in total.

He hit 0–5 (0–3f) in their Ulster Quarter-Final before returning in their first series game against Galway hitting 0–7 (0–5f).

Rian O’Neill

Many thought that Armagh’s Rian O’Neill was deserving of an All-Star inclusion for his performances in the 2022 season, but it did not come. Nevertheless, he has put that disappointment behind him and has been his counties star-performer in the league who’s score of 0-25 was only beaten by Damien McCurry of Tyrone and Ryan O’Donoghue of Mayo for an average of 4.16 points across his six matches.

Rian missed the first two rounds of the Ulster Championship but returned for the Semi-Final and scored a goal against Down on 47 minutes to kill the match. He scored 0–6 (0–3f, 0–1 ’45) in the Ulster Final and 0–4 (0–3f) against Westmeath, his impact at the weekend will be huge again.
