Unbelievable Benie Des Dieux Worth A Crack At Stayers’

It was a great performance from Total Recall at Gowran Park to win the Thyestes Chase – he won a Munster National, he won a Hennessy and now he’s won a Thyestes.

He’s been a fantastic servant for connections and it was a good performance – he was an impressive winner on the day. It’ll be interesting to see what route Willie goes with him in the Spring.

He could be an Aintree Grand National or a BoyleSports Irish Grand National horse.

I rode Clan Des Obeaux, who from the early stages of the race was never comfortable which was disappointing.

Penhill has improved since his run at Christmas. I was very happy with him and thought he ran a very good race in the Galmoy Hurdle, finishing second to Benie Des Dieux.

Benie Des Dieux was very, very impressive though. That was an unbelievable performance and it’ll be interesting to see what her target is at the Cheltenham Festival.

On the back of today’s performance I’d imagine she’s definitely worth having a crack at the Stayers’ Hurdle.

She stays really well and won over 3 miles in France as well.

She’s a very, very good mare. I tracked her the whole way through the race and we went a good gallop all the way, but she picked up again in the straight and showed her class. It was a very good performance from a mare having her first run for a while as well.

I thought Capuccimix ran a decent race in the 3.35. It just turned into a bit of a sprint at the straight and he just got done for a bit of toe. It was his first run since back in Navan on Troytown day and he’ll improve on that again. He’s a horse that will win a beginners’ chase before too long.
