Weekend Racing Provides Huge Cheltenham Clues

Sceau Royal got the better of Champ at Newbury in the Grade Two Game Spirit Chase but the Nicky Henderson-trained Champ has been trimmed into 11/2 from 10/1 to win the Gold Cup after a terrific performance.

Sceau Royal for Alan King is 14/1 from 33/1 for the Champion Chase following his victory.

All eyes were on Tiger Roll at Navan as he took his chance in the Boyne Hurdle in an attempt to win it for a second time but it wasn’t meant to be. He travelled well but faded towards the end with jockey Keith Donoghue explaining that he hated the ground.

His trainer Gordon Elliott said it’s all systems go for Cheltenham but the two-time Grand National winner has been eased out to 8/1 from 6/1 to win the Cross Country Chase.

Boyne Hurdle winner Beacon Edge is 20/1 from 40/1 to win the Stayers’ Hurdle for trainer Noel Meade.

The Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Gowel Road landed the opener at Newbury on Sunday under Sam Twiston-Davies and has been cut to win the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle next month.

This 5-year-old son of Flemensfirth won the Novices’ Hurdle by five and a half-lengths to Good Ball and we have trimmed him into 20/1 from 33/1 to win the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and give his trainer a second success in the race.

Henry De Bromhead had a nice winner at Navan with Atlantic Fairy who is now 16/1 from 33/1 to land the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. Rachael Blackmore was the winning jockey as the pair landed the Apple’s jade Mares Novice Hurdle by 1¾ lengths as the 11/4 joint favourite Global Equity in second.
