Willie Mullins

Who Will Be Top Trainer At The Cheltenham Festival?

Willie Mullins is running away with the battle in the betting to be crowned king of Cheltenham next week after being backed into heavy odds-on to finish the week as top trainer.

The Closutton-based handler, who is set to send some hot favourites to post including Monkfish, Chacun Pour Soi and Al Boum Photo, is dominating the betting at 1/5 to finish the Festival as the trainer with most winners after being backed in from his original price of 2/5.

Henry De Bromhead, who has two leading hopes in the Gold Cup in the shape of A Plus Tard (5/1) and Minella Indo (10/1), has been clipped into 6/1 second favourite from 8/1 after his team was boosted by the likes of Envoi Allen, Ballyadam and Quilixios.

Denise Foster, who has taken over the reins at Gordon Elliott’s Cullentra Stables, is the joint third favourite at 10/1 alongside Nicky Henderson, who is being rated the most likely top trainer from the English-based handlers ahead of Paul Nicholls and Dan Skelton (both 25/1).

Ireland to trounce the British at Cheltenham?

We’ve taken some very hefty bets on Willie Mullins being top trainer even at odds-on prices and we’ve been forced down to 1/5 from 2/5 already.
