Chelsea v Man United Preview

Chelsea’s Form

Chelsea have been flying on all fronts this season, they are currently second on the WSL Table with 16 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats. That record leaves them only one point behind their rivals on Sunday Man United with one less game played than.

In the League Cup Final they were defeated 1-3 by Arsenal and in the Champions League, Semi-Final were knocked out by Barcelona 2-1 on aggregate.

To get to the final they defeated Liverpool 3-2 in the Fourth Round,  then went on to beat Arsenal 2-0 in the Fifth Round, Reading 1-3 in the Quarter-Final and Aston Villa 0-1 in the Semi-Final.

Sunday offers Chelsea the chance to put those defeats in the other competitions behind them, earn their first trophy of the season and retain the FA Cup for the third successive year.

Victory on Sunday also gives the chance of Emma Hayes’s side to complete the double by winning the league in their remaining three matches.

Man United Form

Man United have improved immeasurably under Marc Skinner this season. Last season they finished fourth and 14-points off eventual WSL Winners Chelsea. This year it’s a different story as with three games to play they currently occupy first in the table one-point clear at the top.

The Red Devils have also secured European Qualification for the first time with a record of 16 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats. In the League Cup, they were knocked out at the Group Stage coming second to Aston Villa and losing out to Liverpool on Points Per Game to be the best second-placed team.

To get to the final they defeated Sunderland 1-2 in the Fourth Round, Durham 5-0 in the Fifth-Round, Lewes 1-3 in the Quarter-Final and Brighton 3-2 in the Semi-Final.

Sunday offers Man United the chance to win their first ever Women’s FA Cup which makes it a historic day for one of the world’s biggest clubs.

Key Players To Watch

Sam Kerr

The Chelsea superstar and star striker has had quite the week already. Last Saturday she carried the Australian flag at the Coronation, on  Sunday she scored in Chelsea’s 7-0-win v Everton before going off injured after half an hour.

On Wednesday Kerr watched as Chelsea beat Leicester 6-0 as an unused sub and on Friday she won the FWA Women’s Footballer of the Year award for the second straight season.

The Aussie is an elite striker with 15 goals and 5 assists in 28 games this season and has already scored in the Fourth Round, Fifth Round and Semi-Final. If fit for Sunday it’ll be huge for Chelsea.

Alessia Russo

Alessia Russo has had quite the year, from her backheel last summer in an England Women’s Team who would go on to win the Euros, solidifying herself as Man United’s main attacking asset and being linked with a move away to become the first £1 million women’s footballer as Man United rejected Arsenal’s bid.

Alessia is a genuine superstar of the women’s game and at 24 she will continue to improve for years to come. 10 Goals and 1 Assist in 18 matches does not do her justice as her all-round game is excellent also and she will be crucial to any success on Sunday.

Women’s FA Cup Final Betting Odds

The odds makers make Chelsea 10/11 favourites, Man United can be backed at 9/4 while the draw is also 9/4.

The handicap for the game is Man United +1 @ 3/4.

Women’s FA Cup Final Prediction & Best Bet

Prediction: Chelsea 0-1 Man United

Chelsea are favourites and with their record under Emma Hayes justifiably so.

However, I can see a shock on the cards with Alessia Russo to score for Man United and the Red Devils defence to stop Sam Kerr from scoring.

Best Bet: Manchester United To Win To Nil @ 11/2
