I Wouldn’t Be Rushing To Back Defi Du Seuil For Champion Chase

I had a good weekend with a few winners thrown in!

Winner Winner
Fiddlerontheroof was very impressive at Sandown on Saturday. He is a horse I think an awful lot of and he will probably go back to Sandown for the Tolworth Hurdle in early January.

He’s a fine horse to look forward to for the rest of the season.

I also won on Minella Melody at Punchestown on Sunday. I suppose she was very workman-like. She probably wasn’t as impressive as everyone was expecting but I think she’ll improve. She’s a nice one to keep an eye on.

Defi Du Seuil v Un De Sceaux
The Tingle Creek on Saturday was a cracking renewal of the race. Two top class horses in Defi Du Seuil and Un De Sceaux went head-to-head and had a fantastic battle. Everybody was roaring for the old boy Un De Sceaux but it was a great performance from Defi Du Seuil.

I wouldn’t be rushing out to back him for a Champion Chase yet though.

I don’t think it’s the race they want to go for. A lot depends what comes out in the two mile division.

Punchestown – Sunday
The John Durkan Memorial Chase was steadily run at Punchestown on Sunday. Min dictated from the front and battled back to beat Hardline who ran a cracker in second place. Presenting Percy ran very well in his first run since pulling up in the Gold Cup. Min is a top class horse and two and a half miles is his ideal trip.

I paid the price for choosing Trainwreck in the Beginners Chase at Punchestown. He got very tired. Willie Mullins’ Breaken looked to be going very well and jumped superbly up until the third last but just got his wires crossed and make a mistake and fell.

It was interesting but I think the winner, Dunvegan, was starting to reel Breaken in anyway; there wouldn’t have been much between them. It will be interesting to see where he goes next.

People will think that Breaken was home and hosed only for the fall but I don’t think he was.

Top Notch won his second Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon on Sunday. He has been a consistent horse for a good few years now. There are small question marks about how good of a race it was but you can’t take it away from Top Notch. It was a good win.
