Xabi Alonso Now Betting Favourite For Liverpool Job

A club legend looks poised to become the next Liverpool Manager after Friday morning’s shock announcement that Jurgen Klopp will be stepping down at the end of the season.

The bombshell news was broken by Fabrizio Romano on Friday morning. The world of football was sent into a frenzy with the news.

Now the decision-makers at Anfield will need to find a replacement for Klopp with a Liverpool fan favourite leading the early betting.

Xabi Alonso Next Liverpool Manager Favourite

The odds on Xabi Alonso being appointed the next Liverpool manager are already in freefall at BoyleSports, who now make the former Reds midfielder an odds-on 4/7 shot to replace Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout.

The current head coach at Bayer Leverkusen, who are top of the Bundesliga, is the subject of a large majority of the bets going down on who will succeed Klopp following the German’s shock announcement that he is stepping down at the end of the season after nine years in charge.

Alonso was immediately installed as a 4/1 frontrunner for the post by BoyleSports, but that price was snapped up within minutes as Liverpool confirmed that Klopp’s assistant Pep Lijnders is set to follow him out the Anfield exit door. Lijnders has been pushed out to 10/1 from 5/1 as a result, with Reds legend Steven Gerrard rated a 12/1 shot to return from Saudi Arabia to replace his former manager.

One other candidate who is trending upwards in the early betting is Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, who has been quickly clipped into 11/2 second favourite from 8/1. Less likely candidates include fan favourite Rafa Benitez (40/1) and Jose Mourinho, who is a remote 50/1 shot despite his recent exit from Roma.
