Nico And Nicky To Bite Again At Newbury

Kildare trainer Peter Fahey could be worth following at Thurles today as he unleashes a potential runner for Aintree’s Grand National Festival and also a smart bumper horse who could go on to bigger things.

Run With Fahey To Get Job Done
Sandymount Duke has his final run prior to a tilt at the Aintree Grand National in the White Gypsy @ Finns Borrisoleigh Hurdle today but the vote of confidence is given to Peregrine Run to come out on top.

The Peter Fahey-trained nine-year-old is back over hurdles as a prep for the Topham Chase at Aintree next month and this could be the perfect race for the classy son of King’s Theatre to go there on a winning note.

Barry Geragthy comes in for the ride now that Peregrine Run’s regular rider Roger Loughran has retired and it would be no surprise if Peregrine Run could give a good account of himself here and also at Aintree for which he is a 20/1 shot at the moment.

Last time out over fences in November, Peregrine Run was a solid fourth behind Snow Falcon and while this is undoubtedly a race to blow off the cobwebs…

he is a horse that achieved a rating of 142 over hurdles and could just have measure of Scarpeta even without a run.

The concluding bumper on the card looks a tasty contest. Of those that have run, Dewcup, Scalor and Soviet Pimpernel have all posted a place effort in decent company but it is the latter that is picked to come out on top here.

Newcomers from the Noel Meade and Jessica Harrington stables and Henry de Bromhead’s My Uncas, who was brought down on debut at Naas, also have to be feared, but Soviet Pimpernel ran well at Leopardstown behind Sixshooter and went unsold at Cheltenham’s Tattersalls Sale for £115,000 last week so…

the owners decision to sit tight should be justified this evening.

Nico And Nicky To Bite Again
It is fairly apt that Nicky Henderson would end up training a Scorpion filly called She Mite Bite following his success with Scorpion’s most famous son, Might Bite.

She Might Bite started life in Ireland and had two outings in Point to Point races here before being sold to Henderson’s for just £28,000.

That could look value if she can claim the feature race at Newbury this afternoon.

Still a maiden on the track, She Mite Bite is unlikely to ever reach anything close to the dizzy heights of the stable companion we can assume her name is a reference to, but having been somewhat unlucky in some of her races, there is a chance that she has now become reasonably handicapped and open to more improvement.

The six-year-old runs off a rating of 119 and in what looks an open race, she could just be worth taking a chance on as…

she will prove very well in the day the penny finally drops with her.

Recommended Bets:
Peregrine Run (11/8) – 2.55 Thurles
Soviet Pimpernel (11/4) – 5.50 Thurles
She Mite Bite (11/2) – 3.15 Newbury
