The Welshman is the favourite for the double-start event, which will be played at Leicester’s Morningside Arena and runs from October 3rd – 9th.

The number one seed goes into the event buoyed by an amazing victory at the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam earlier this month and BoyleSports have now clipped Price into 7/2 favourite from 9/2 after the former world champion was handed a first round assignment against Germany’s Martin Schindler.

That makes Price the new favourite after taking over from Michael van Gerwen.

All eyes will be on a repeat of the 2016 final as van Gerwen was drawn to face Gary Anderson in the opening round. The Dutchman has been eased slightly out to 4/1 from 7/2 favourite to be crowned BoyleSports World Grand Prix champion for a sixth time.

2020 runner-up Dirk van Duijvenbode is rated at 28/1 to go one better ahead of his first-round clash with defending champion Jonny Clayton.

The Ferret is yet to win a ranking event this year and remains 8/1 in the betting to successfully defend his crown, having won the 2021 title beating fellow countryman Gerwyn Price 5-1 in the final.

Premier League runner-up Joe Cullen is 14/1 and will face recent World Cup winner Damon Heta. Dave Chisnall will face Dimitri Van den Bergh in the opening round with Chizzy already clipped into 25/1 from 50/1 following his victory in the Belgian Darts Open which included a brilliant 9-darter.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “The draw for the 2022 BoyleSports World Grand Prix was made on Monday afternoon and 2021 champion Gerwyn Price is the new favourite.

The Iceman warmed up in spectacular fashion in Amsterdam and it’s no surprise he’s being so well backed to win another BoyleSports World Grand Prix in that sort of form.

We’re going 7/2 from 9/2 about a victory as a result, so he’s all set to start as sole favourite, with closest challengers Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright both at 4/1 and 7/1 respectively on the opposite side of the draw.”
