A win looked all but impossible before a stunning charge from the back of the field under Wayne Lordan set up a last gasp finish with Echoes In Rain edged out by a neck.

The son of Camelot has now been cut into 6/1 from 14/1 by BoyleSports in the betting for the Cesarewitch at Newmarket next month, making him joint favourite alongside Adagio.

Ahorsewithoname is 13/2 third favourite with leading fancy Super Superjack ruled out for the season, while Curragh runner-up Echoes In Rain has also shortened into 8/1 from 10/1.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Aidan O’Brien talked up Waterville earlier this year and antepost punters are certainly taking notice now.

It was such an eye-catching performance and perfectly timed win at the Curragh and there is confidence that he’d take the Newmarket equivalent next month should he go, so we’re 6/1 from 14/1 for now with nothing ahead of him in the betting at this stage.”

Meanwhile, a horse racing punter in County Kilkenny made their weekend one to remember in spectacular fashion by bagging a four-figure windfall thanks to a shrewd set of picks on Saturday.

The anonymous punter struck their bet online with BoyleSports, picking four horses at four different meetings for a €5 yankee, costing them a total of €55.

Wins at Haydock for 5/1 shot Wanees and at Chester for Tyrone’s Poppy (9/2) set the ball rolling, but a huge windfall was on the cards when Mandocello won the 4.05 at Market Rasen at 4/1.

That left a nervous wait for the 6.33 at Chelmsford, where 4/1 shot Open Mind made it a stunning four winners from four with a 1½ length victory.

The hot winning streak was enough to allow the lucky punter to log back in to see their balance boosted by a grand total of €8,077.50.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Hats off to our County Kilkenny customer who couldn’t have had a better weekend thanks to their savvy picks on the horses. To pick four winners is no mean feat, so we hope they enjoy every cent of their winnings.”
