Michael van Gerwen BoyleSports World Grand Prix Favourite

Michael van Gerwen heads the list of BoyleSports World Grand Prix 2023 odds after the first round draw for this year’s renewal was completed on Monday.

The Dutchman is chasing a seventh title at the double-start event, which will be played at Leicester’s Morningside Arena and runs from October 2nd-8th. The number two seed has been chalked up as hot 4/11 favourite to win his first round meeting with World Youth Champion Josh Rock, who hit a 9-darter in a 10-8 defeat to van Gerwen at last year’s Grand Slam.

Van Gerwen was beaten in the quarter-finals of the Hungarian Darts Trophy on Sunday by eventual winner Dave Chisnall and the St Helens man has been backed down to 16/1 from 20/1 in the World Grand Prix betting with title sponsor BoyleSports, but 2021 world champion Gerwyn Price is rated van Gerwen’s biggest threat at 10/3.

Price is well fancied to come through his first round assignment against Danny Noppert at 1/3, while current world champion and number one seed Michael Smith is 9/2 third favourite to land a first BoyleSports World Grand Prix ahead of an opening round clash with Newcastle’s Callan Rydz.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said:

“Josh Rock is certainly no walkover, but Michael van Gerwen won a seventh Premier League title this year and if the early betting trends are on the money, it’ll be seven up at the BoyleSports World Grand Prix too.”
