2023 Women’s World Cup Group F Preview, Predictions & Odds

We have a 2023 Women’s World Cup Group F preview for you ahead of the kick-off of this summer’s biggest football tournament.

Teams In Women’s World Cup Group F

France

Hervé Renard resigned as Saudia Arabian men’s manager in March to begin his tenure as coach of the France women’s team.

France qualified for the World Cup by winning their qualifying Group with Wales, Slovenia, Greece, Estonia and Kazakhstan. They had a perfect record in that group with ten wins from ten games, fifty-four goals scored and only four conceded.

France have been solid in 2023 with five wins and one draw, albeit only their last three victories were under the tutelage of their new coach. They recently faced Ireland in Tallaght and were very impressive on their way to a 3-0 victory.

France’s best finish at a World Cup was fourth place in 2011. In this tournament the veteran trio of captain Wendie Renard (32), Amandine Henry (33) and Eugénie Le Sommer (34) will all be crucial.

Jamaica

Lorne Donaldson was appointed in June 2022 as Head Coach of Jamaica Women football team. In July 2022, Donaldson led Jamaica Reggaegirlz to their second consecutive World Cup following a third-place finish at the 2022 CONCACAF Championship.

They have had a poor 2023, though, with five defeats, one draw and one win. That win came against Sheffield United back in April in a friendly. The players to watch out for in there team is captain and Manchester City player Khadija Shaw (26), Jody Brown (23) and Drew Spence (30).

Brazil

Pia Sundhage had twenty-seven years of coaching experience, including as Head Coach of the United States and Sweden, before in July 2019, she accepted an invitation from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to become the new coach of Brazil Women’s national team.

Sundhage guided them to the 2022 Copa América Femenina which also earned them a spot at this World Cup.

In 2023 their form has been decent, with three wins, one draw with England and two defeats to Canada and the United States. The 2007 runners-up could fancy themselves with another run at the competition with a squad including Rafaelle (32), Marta (37) and Alves (30).

Panama

Ignacio Quintan was appointed in 2021 as manager of the Panama Women’s team. Since then he has helped Panama have equal salaries and conditions between the men’s and women’s national teams.

Quintan also guided them to their first-ever World Cup via their status as the Inter-confederation play-off Group C winners after overcoming Chinese Taipei and Paraguay back in February.

Panama have had a strong 2023 with six wins, one draw and three defeats which is impressive, albeit against largely inferior opposition. Their most recent game was a 7-0 humbling by Spain which probably is a better gauge as to where the team is against their World Cup opposition.

Marta Cox (25), who made her international debut at 14, Riley Tanner (23) and Lineth Cedeño (22) will be key.

Player to Watch

Marta (37), the All-time Brazilian top goal-scorer with 115 goals in 175 appearances, is surely making her final appearance at a World Cup, and it would be quite the story if they could win the tournament for the first time in her final one. Could sixth times be the charm for this Legend?

Women’s World Cup Group F Prediction

1st – Brazil

2nd – France

3rd – Jamaica

4th – Panama

The winner of the France and Brazil game will win the Group, with whoever loses is likely to find themselves in second place.

I can’t see Jamaica or Panama troubling the top two names in the Group, as they seem to be in a different league.
