AC Milan’s Form

As mentioned earlier, AC Milan’s last outing was a humiliating 5-1 defeat at the hands of fierce rivals Inter Milan. Before that loss, Milan had been in great domestic form with three wins from their opening three Serie A games.

Those wins were; 2-0 against Bologna in the opening round, 4-1 against Torino, and 2-1 against Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

It’ll be the return of Sandro Tonali to the San Siro on Tuesday following his transfer to Newcastle during the summer. Despite the loss of Tonali, I feel this Milan squad is stronger this season.

Newcastle’s Form

Newcastle entered the season on an upward trajectory, going from eleventh in the Premier League to fourth place last season under Eddie Howe. That top-four finish qualified the club for the Champions League for the first time since 2002/03.

The Magpies’ pre-season went well as they earned five wins, and two draws in seven games played. That promising pre-season along with big signings like Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes put high expectations on this side.

The season started so well for the club following their demolition job 5-1 victory against Aston Villa.

Since that victory, things have gone downhill with Newcastle suffering three straight league losses. To be fair to the Magpies they faced tough opposition with Man City, Liverpool, and Brighton all among the very best teams in the league.

Their most recent outing against Brentford was a game they were expected to win and they did just that to restore some confidence in the dressing room heading into this big Champions League tie.
