Dublin Relegation Odds

The odds on Dublin going back down to the second tier of the National League are in freefall as BoyleSports cut them into 5/2 from 13/2 for the drop.

Dessie Farrell’s side have started their league campaign with two straight defeats to Monaghan and Mayo, meaning they are the only side of the eight in Division 1 yet to bag a point from their opening two fixtures.

A last-gasp score by Fergal Boland was the difference as Mayo edged out the All-Ireland champions by the minimum margin in Castlebar, securing their second straight victory. Kevin McStay’s men top the early standings and have been backed down to 10/3 from 15/2 for a successful defence of their league title.

Derry Now Allianz League Favourites

But Derry are now out on their own as favourites after Mickey Harte oversaw a 1-12 to 0-09 victory over his native Tyrone at Celtic Park. With an opening week victory over Kerry also under their belts, the Ulster champions have been clipped into 5/2 from 5/1 to go all the way in Division 1 for the first time since 2013.

The Clifford brothers reappeared as Kerry bounced back with a comfortable victory over Monaghan and the Kingdom are rated second favourites in the top division at 9/4.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said:

“Punters are turning to Derry as likely league champions with two wins already in the bag for Mickey Harte, but it’s been a slow start to the season for Dublin and a growing number think they’re in danger of the drop.”
