Australia Remains Solid For Derby Double

Irish Derby

Outright Betting

Just seven runners will go to post for Saturday’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby with the Epsom first and second placed horses set to clash again.

Australia currently remains solid in the betting at 1/3 and will be bidding to follow in the footsteps of what his trainer, Aidan O’Brien, did with Camelot in 2012, by completing the Derby double. Kingston Hill, who was second to Australia at Epsom, is now priced at 4/1 having initially been installed at 3/1 to reverse the form.

Dermot Weld’s Fascinating Rock is next in the betting at 14/1 whilst Aidan O’Brien will also saddle Orchestra (33/1), Kingfisher (66/1) and Geoffrey Chaucer (20/1). The John Oxx-trained Ponfeigh (25/1) makes up the seven runner field.

Australia currently remains steady in the betting at 1/3 but our traders could see his price go either way depending on what way the ground goes at the Curragh.

We would expect to see Kingston Hill’s price of 4/1 dry up if the ground eased but if the ground dried out, no doubt Australia could go off as short as Camelot did in 2012 at 1/5.
