BAFTA Winner Michaela Coel Backed For Doctor Who Role

Michaela Coel has been further backed to be cast as the next Doctor Who after she walked off with the BAFTA for best actress for her role in I May Destroy You.

Jodie Whittaker became the first female to play the Time Lord when she was named as the thirteenth Doctor Who in 2017,

but intense speculation in recent months suggests she will be replaced after the next series,

…despite admitting this week that she doesn’t want to think about moving on.

Coel, who was also recently awarded for her writing and directing roles on I May Destroy You, is the frontrunner. We have now made her a 4/1 shot from 6/1 following her recognition at the BAFTAs.

Presenter of Sunday’s ceremony Richard Ayoade is also in the running at 9/1, but the main contender to Coel according to the betting is It’s A Sin star and Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander, who was gambled into 5/1 from 33/1 in January after being singled out by John Barrowman as the perfect candidate
