There was a huge shock as the William Haggas trained-superstar could only finish fourth on his Ascot swansong, leaving Bay Bridge to hold off Adayar to land the spoils for the Derby-winning combination of Sir Michael Stoute and Richard Kingscote.

Bay Bridge has since shortened into 7/2 from 8/1 in the antepost betting for the Breeders’ Cup Turf making the son of New Bay co-favourite alongside Rebel’s Romance and Adayar, who was clipped in from 6/1 after finishing half a length back in second.

Earlier on the Ascot card, Kinross justified his favourite’s tag to win the Champions Sprint Stakes under Frankie Dettori and is now 9/4 joint favourite from 9/2 for the Breeders’ Cup Mile.
